Rename to fortified tower

[edit]

Would anyone object if I moved this to "fortified tower" which is much neater. From a quick search of articles "fortified tower" occurs quite frequently, whereas the alternative "defended tower" occurs once. It is also currently "free". --Bermicourt (talk) 21:39, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Changes made recently

[edit]

I came here looking for some info and see " Muslim military architecture generally favoured them" under 'Rectangular towers'. I'm not familiar enough with the subject to make any changes but seems to me like this is wrong? I don't see how a religion has a military architecture. Previous versions show this as being changed to other things and then reverted. Not sure what the correct version is. Also, the 1st reference looks to be wrong / no link. Again with edits in previous versions. Anyone want to look at this who knows about castles and towers? Gicronin (talk) 15:35, 8 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Then you need to familiarise yourself with the Muslim religion and its history (or just look around the world today - Afghanistan, Sudan, Nigeria, Iraq, Syria, East Africa, Yemen, Chechnya, etc, etc). It is, by nature, militant and its expansion during the medieval period was largely by military means which is why the Iberian peninsula was overrun by the Moors and much of Eastern Europe dominated by the Ottomans as they pushed north and west, reaching the gates of Vienna. So it seems reasonable to refer to Muslim military architecture during this period, as it was a genre, and books have been written about it. The first reference is to the first book under "Sources". References don't need to be linked. Many documents and books are not on the Internet. I didn't write this stuff, but it doesn't seem unreasonable. --Bermicourt (talk) 19:01, 8 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. As I said, I wasn't familiar with this subject and that's why I wanted to flag it for someone to check as you have. Some of the recent changes had American instead of Muslim and I wanted someone knowledgeable to confirm this. Thanks again Gicronin (talk) 19:40, 8 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Always good to discuss these things. --Bermicourt (talk) 06:26, 9 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
