Speculation?
[edit]I removed the following,
- "when the Union became nervous about the Confederacy’s newest naval ship design, the ironclad warship, and its possible effect on Bath Iron Works and Maine’s capital city of Augusta, which is located less than 45 miles (72 km) up the Kennebec River."
because it appears to be very speculative. The fort's construction predates the Bath Iron Works by 20 years and the first Confederate ironclad by a year.Jameslwoodward (talk) 19:13, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
