A foreword generally covers the story of how the book came into being, or how the idea for the book was developed; this is often followed by thanks and acknowledgments to people who were helpful to the author during the time of writing.
really applies to the preface, NOT the foreword. Someone should rewrite this.
Kelly Bambury 23-08-2007: I don't know who wrote the above but this person is wrong, the definition of FOREWORD has been correctly described by Wikipedia.
