Ford product planning

This "Unlike Commodore, Ford has no plans to export the Falcon to North America" is pure speculation. I would think that it is highly likely that the platform is under serious consideration for North America.

Older Discussion

Is it me or does the '79 Australian Falcon win the Ugliest Car Ever Built Award? A slightly facelifted version that came shortly afterwards improved it somewhat, but the original of this series... well, it's ugly, man! The headlights look as if they've been added on as an afterthought, the front lower panel appears to have been omitted, and the shape of the wheelarches is just - odd. The way the eye is drawn down the sharp folded edges at the back to where the windows don't line up where you expect them - it's definitely a classic of pure ugliness! By comparison the same vintage European Ford Granada to which it bears quite a resemblance is significantly tidier. It's as if the Aussies looked at the Granada, said "it's too small", and just sort of started adding in odd lengths here and there until it was big enough, and sod the aesthetics. Nah, the '94 European Scorpio is a much stronger contender, if you want ugly! The '79 Falcon looked OK, although the backside of the wagon looked awful with the sloping lights and the old-fashioned bumper.

I think we should bear in mind how these cars looked at the time, and it's worth mentioning that the XD Falcon was considered beautiful at its launch, with the XC particularly old hat by comparison. The designer who worked on the Granada Mk II and the XD Falcon, at the time, felt that the XD was better-looking as he was not restricted to carry-over doors. The trend was toward larger glasshouses in the late 1970s, with this idea finding its way into production come 1980. Stombs 01:58, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

Someone moved the Australian section to the top, which I've reversed, as the Australian Falcon story begins with the US models. Also, even though 4 million Australian Falcons have been sold, there were probably still more Falcons sold in the US in the 1960s.

Scorpios were pretty ugly. I think the late 70s "XC" Mark II Falcon is the ugliest Australian model: rectangular halogen headlights did not belong on that body :-) Grant65 (Talk) 02:31, Jun 28, 2004 (UTC)

That might be the one I was referring to above - as a recent immigrant i'm not too sure of my Aussie cars yet - Holdens even more confusing!! The European Scorpio is too obvious to be called ugly. I must admit when it came out I thought the same but after a while it kinda grew on me, especially from the back. That might have had something to do with the slitty lights reminding me of my own quirky favourite, the Vauxhall Firenza (a car I used to own), though the front end was totally disimilar and very retro American looking. The public must have agreed with you though because you never saw too many of them on the roads. Graham 05:01, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Here's a front view of an "XC" Mk I, which was pre-1979[1] and an "XC" Mk II[2].

The XC Mk I referenced above is the base Falcon. The XC Mk II referenced is the higher level Fairmont derivative. There was a 'Mk I' and 'Mk II', although there were only detail cosmetic differences.
If I remember correctly, the 'XD' Falcon won an "Australian Design Award", so it can't have appeared too ugly in it's day. They do look quite pedestrian nowdays though.

What is this asertion about the US Falcon tooling being shipped to Australia? I would have thought that the Aussie Falcon was distinctly different by this time, and that the tooling would have been locally developed. Jonathan 6 Nov 2004

Do we really need so many images on the page? In particular, each Australian model seems to have two images, a front and a rear view. Few other car articles go to these lengths, it doesn't add much to the article and it makes the page slow to download on dial-up. One solution that I feel is quite good is to link additional images from the first image page, then those that are interested in looking at the additional views can easily find them. I like them, since they are models that would never be seen by anyone outside Australia otherwise. I use dialup and don't find the page excessively slow. Fortunately they are all thumbnails, so you can decide if you want to click onto the full-size image or not. I don't think this article has too many pictures--I think most of the car articles just don't have enough. RivGuySC 03:33, 23 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I added the photos, since there is a lot of discussion regarding styling of certain models. How else for anyone to judge the merit of a comment than to see a picture of the vehicle in question? Jonathan 17:01, 04 Dec 2004 (AEDT)
This article does contain far too many images, and most of these are copyright violations or have no source/licensing information. We've got no choice but to clean this up, I'm afraid; and that will mean that the images have to go. Feel free to seek out free replacements. Rob Church Talk 15:03, 1 October 2005 (UTC)

Help me identify this Australian Falcon?

Australian Falcon, unknown.

Please help me identify exactly what this is. I believe it to be some model of Falcon XB from the early 1970s, but I'm not sure exactly what. Thanks in advance, —Morven 19:11, Apr 30, 2005 (UTC)

The missing grille makes it bit harder, but it does look like an XB Falcon GT Coupé (cf: http://www.falcongt.com.au/XBGT2PIC.html ) Hard, if not impossible, to say whether it's a 1973 or a 1974. Nice car. Was that pic taken in your neighbourhood? Grant65 (Talk) 11:50, May 1, 2005 (UTC)

Merge xr6 turbo with ford falcon

This car is fast becoming a cult car it is worthy of its own page just like the Holden Monaro and many other cars have. I vote against a merge.

Agreed. I think that all Tickford/FPV models deserve a seperate section.

Australian Falcon section split off proposed

The Australian section dominates the article, a separate Ford Falcon (Australia) article seems justified, surely the Falcon GT (including GTHO) deserves an article of its own similar to Chrysler Valiant, separated from Valiant (automobile) and Valiant Charger. Paul foord 14:20, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

At the moment the article is still under the 32kB limit, and the Australian Falcons are direct descendants of the US 1960s Falcons, so I don't think there is any reason to hive off the Australian content. But that is the obvious solution if the article grows over the 32kB limit. Grant65 | Talk 10:15, 18 April 2006 (UTC)


Here just some info from Argentina: Ford Falcon was imported from USA by Ford Motor Argentina from 1961 to 1962.Ford started manufacturing Falcon in Argentina in 1963. From 1963 up to 1991 more than half million were sold here. It suffered 6 small re-styling procedures.

I don't think this article is correct because it seems to be the Main Falcon Bio and not the Australian-Falcon as it is right now.

Seems to me this article should be separated. It doesn't mention the North American market Falcon at all, that I noticed, & that's what I wanted... Trekphiler 11:40, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

E-Series "disaster"

How exactly does the E-Series qualify as a disaster? Because a couple of doorlocks and engine controllers played up in the EA?

The car was still the best-selling car from its release until the year before it's replacement (The VT Commodore took the lead).

Agreed. Granted there was some teething problems.... like the ancient 3-speed auto initially, and everyone laughed at the 3.2L carby option. But the EA was a reasonable car by all accounts, far from a lemon. My dad bought a EA fairmont brand new, and it was a lovely car. Much smoother than the VP Commodore I bought. Although at first she tended to stick in 2nd gear when flooring it, but hey that's the bathtub curve for you. --Jquarry 04:33, 24 August 2006 (UTC)


Aussie built car

Is this still true with the creation o fthe Ve Commodore?

Verification of 1000 kW claim

Can someone please list some references for this claim? Not only to keep it encyclopedic, but for us Ford owners to drool over and ponder the costs incurred to get such performance from our vehicles? :P 211.30.71.59 16:37, 24 September 2006 (UTC)


You are probably looking at least $20K to get an XR6T to 1000kw as you would have to upgrade engine internals, drivetrain etc but it is definitely possible. Do some Googling, there's plenty of tuning houses getting some insane numbers out of the I6... 124.148.97.101 06:44, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Performance enhancement for Police cars

My cousin works as a mechanic at a Ford dealer\service centre and he works on police vechiles. He has told me on many occasions about changes to the 'standard' Falcon (ECU) software to give police vehicles an extra bit of performance. I don't know where the person who put the sentence in origianlly got it from but it is incorrect. Pretender2j 05:09, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Replacing the Crown Vic?

Can somebody confirm that the Falcon will be coming to the States to replace the Crown Vic? If so, will we get the Ute as well? Many people would love a new Ranchero. Chevy would bring over the Holden Ute to go up against it as the El Camino. 67.188.172.165 01:45, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Change the images of the EB and EL

These images bothe show the GT models of these cars, which look completely different from the standard models, which have the majority. If you want to keep these images shouldn't we at least make a note that these are the GT versions?

If you roll over the picture the tool tips do say these are GT's. However if you feel that mainstream models should be featured in the infoboxes, please replace them with an appropriate image. I do ask though, that if this is done, that the GT images are placed on the page somewhere, perhaps following a piece of text created to inform about the E-Series GT's. Big Project for Ford Falcon Aricle

HB4026- Hello, I have identified the size problem on the Ford Falcon article, so I am going to split it up into model sub-articles. Therefore, they can have more detail and load up quicker. I have already finished the AU Falcon article, and Ive gone over the BA and BF articles and they're pretty good.
