Bill Mallon's False Statement
[edit]It is correct there are no contemporary reports about the Demonstration football match which took place as part of the 1896 Olympic Games in Athens. However, in that time, the order from the 1896 Olympic organizing committee was not to mention the sports which were contested unofficially during the 1896 Olympics (such as football). And that is why the football game was not reported anywhere. So Bill Mallon is wrong when he says that match did not take place. There was a long thorough research made about this topic and they still found evidence. 147.235.208.49 (talk) 23:58, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

United States Men's Medals:
In the Participating Nations table, it shows they only won 1 Silver.
In the Medal Table, it shows that they won 1 Silver and 1 Bronze.
Please check factual accuracy.

- That is because US teams won their silver and bronze in the same games. Maybe the bronze could be added somehow in the same cell as their silver in the participating nations table. 85.217.21.143 (talk) 04:45, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
Why was East Germany combined with Germany, West Germany, and United Germany? Arguably these should be three different teams on the medals table, but at the very least it should be two teams, with Germany and West Germany being one team and East Germany being another. It's not fair they get to have two teams competing at the same games. These were separate countries and should be counted as such. In spite of some Germans trying to make themselves feel better by combining medal totals. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.70.62.145 (talk) 12:33, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
- It was Partho pratim upadhyay who brought that error into the article just one day before your comment, [1]. It is reverted now and FIFA decides how to handle it, not any Wikipedia-editors.--Je suis blocked by Darkwind 09:37, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
Football at the Winter Olympics?
[edit]Football at the Winter Olympics? No? So why not simply Football at the Olympics? 2003:C6:3723:7D51:E96F:E218:668:1640 (talk) 01:39, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
- Because the tournament is held in the summer edition, not the winter one. Svartner (talk) 01:18, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
Official medals are wrong
[edit]1- 1900 and 1904 olympic football tournaments are not recognized by FIFA because they were club tournaments and not senior national team tournaments, so the senior national team of USA and Canada don't have olympic medals 2- Germany, West Germany and United team of Germany are the same national team for FIFA and official statistics, only East Germany was a separate national team in football honours and statistics Alphafelidae (talk) 03:17, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
- It's already noted that FIFA doesn't recognize those two tournaments, but this is about an Olympic event, so isn't the IOC the determining factor? Alyo (chat·edits) 14:18, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
- Football at the 1900 and 1904 Summer Olympics were not tournaments, they were demonstrations matches and no medals were awarded. 1900 and 1904 demonstration matches are not included in the official history of the Olympic football tournaments that oficially began in 1908, in the same article you have the link with the information https://www.rsssf.org/tableso/olympics.html Alphafelidae (talk) 00:57, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- rsssf.org is not an official source. The IOC has retroactively granted medals to those tournaments, so they are listed with the appropriate caveats. Alyo (chat·edits) 03:22, 1 October 2024 (UTC)

From 1952 to 1988 Ukraine competed as Soviet Union
[edit]From 1952 to 1988 the Soviet Union national football team played in the Summer Olympics. Ukraine as Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic and Russian Federation as Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic was part USSR from 1922 to 1991. Many Ukrainian players played for the Soviet Union national football team during this period. Please include in Previous appearances in tournaments for Ukraine for example Russian Federation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ЛексВМ (talk • contribs) 19:26, 12 October 2024 (UTC)
