Cancer
[edit]Most art I've seen associate the 'polyp' description with cancer polyps, rather than coral polyps, as I believe was Lovecraft's intention. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.69.141.170 (talk) 20:03, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
Aren't the flying polyp and the Elder Thing the same thing?
According to these scraps of information, the basis of the fear was a horrible elder race of half-polypous, utterly alien entities which had come through space from immeasurably distant universes... But as the aeons passed there came vague, evil signs that the elder things were growing strong and numerous in the inner world...
They were also mentioned in The Shadow Out of Time as leaving a circular 5-toe footprint - sounds about right for an elder thing. Both were also alien.

No, the Elder Things weren't invisible, and were made of normal matter.

Since when in the hell were the Flying Polyps in Quake? I can't think of anything in the game that's even close to analogous to them.
