Work needed

This page is a mess and badly needs sorting out!

  • Are floristry and flower arranging the same thing? Surely not: floristry in the modern sense is a profession, while flower arranging can also be a hobby (albeit one that is often taken very seriously!).
  • The ikebana reference sits awkwardly and doesn't follow on from the first para.
  • Does "floristry" today still imply the growing of flowers as well as retailing them?
  • The original sense of florist (someone who bred and grew flowers for competition) needs to be mentioned.
  • Personal grievances (or perhaps general trade ones - but we need cites sources as proof) are being aired (about supermarkets, internet sales and the Federal Trade Commission).
  • Some awkward or confusing/misleading phraseology: "flowers, often spilling out into the street"(!) "Typically, a florist will organize flowers by season and holiday"(?) "major flower issues"(!!)

It is an book on flower arrangement from 1923. Might be worth a look.

  • Is "the internet" the only reason for decline in number of florists? Where I live Grocery stores are now big in the flower business - formerly they were not - so I think grocery stores selling flower may have also contributed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.179.137.204 (talk) 21:45, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
