Disagreement Over Oracle Java vs Android Claims

A new claim about Android: http://fosspatents.blogspot.com/2011/03/googles-android-faces-serious-linux.html Doesn't make sense to me; the headers are there for userspace to use, and linux's copyright includes "This copyright does *not* cover user programs that use kernel services by normal system calls" (see http://lwn.net/Articles/417829/) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bobbozzo (talk • contribs) 19:49, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
- I added something on it with the response from Linus. IRWolfie- (talk) 22:30, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
Page Deletion
[edit]I think that Florian is a notable blogger and the page should be kept in place. I made a few edits (removing the reference to his high school, which seemed superfluous); I think the article is fairly accurate, that Mr Mueller is notable, and the article should stay on Wikipedia. I'm not sure what "has a PR of 0" means, but the blog has Google Page Rank of 6 out of 10 according to prchecker.info. I will remove the deletion notice. Sanpitch (talk) 01:39, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
- The high school mention was not superfluos. That's his higher degree of education. Equally relevant is his lack of legal training, since he often approach legal topics. 88.9.108.128 (talk) 10:51, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
- Just because someone isn't formally educated on a topic doesn't mean they aren't educated at all on that topic (he did, after all, run the NoSoftwarePatents campaign for many years). BrianRandal (talk) 12:09, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
- At highly regulated fields, like the legal one, having formal education is essential. Quest09 (talk) 14:42, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
- His educational background seems relevant to the article to me but the current wording sounds like a synthesis "He blogs frequently about patent issues and gives legal advice, despite having no formal legal training.". A secondary source must be provided that also states this. IRWolfie- (talk) 15:38, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not confident enough in my Wikipedia etiquette to edit the main article, but I believe this Wall Street Journal article states the situation clearly: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424053111903791504576586372553647338.html . The relevant part is at the end: "Florian Mueller is a consultant. An earlier version of this article incorrectly said he is an attorney." The article itself is now behind a paywall, but you can see the relevant text in the snippet for a Google search for site:wsj.com florian mueller lawyer consultant. MattCutts (talk) 18:51, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
- I am removing the notability flag since there was no discussion as to why it was added, the section of talk responding to it immediately moved on to talking about other controversies involving him (his education/qualifications) and there are many cited examples of awards he received and documentation of his involvement in notable events. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.176.122.41 (talk) 14:18, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
Consulting Relationship with Oracle
[edit]Ok, he himself admitted to that. My question now is - should not the amount of criticism (IF it is well founded, not just blind rant) be intensified? Because his past analysis could very well be extremely subjective. Or, to write it provocatively, he could have been bought by Oracle a long time ago in order to write pro-Oracle "news". One need to have an unbiased, neutral view over his work. 62.47.241.102 (talk) 16:08, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- I've seen enough sources floating around about the consulting and may try expanding the section. Bear in mind WP:NPOV as well. IRWolfie- (talk) 09:17, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
