Inconsistency

[edit]

The flag shown in Merina Kingdom is not listed in this article. I suspect that flag is fake. 特磨 (talk) 08:07, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

That the flag isn’t described here doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a fake; Wikipedia is incomplete and Malagasy history is obscure. The Commons file cites this card, so it seems, at least, that it’s not made up. But I will look for other evidence, and I’d encourage you to ask members of a Flags wikiproject. this thesis makes reference to a watercolor showing the Merina flag. Unfortunately, the figure reproduced is completely unreadable in the scan, and I don’t see any watercolors by Charles Meller anywhere online. Apparently it’s housed in the Rhodes House Library at Oxford. Zanahary 05:48, 4 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I tried looking for that specific flag during my expansion of this article but could not find a source describing it. The book Les anciens drapeaux de Madagascar (1975) is quite comprehensive and shows a similar flag on page 53 (PDF page 8), but it's a diagonal bicolour. Yue🍁 06:53, 4 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
