So this just isn't the Flag of the Republic of the Rio Grande, the only contemporary image of the flag has it as a white-red-black tricolor, with a blue hoist with three white stars. This is a white-black bicolor with a red hoist and three white stars. Prior to the image being widely known in 2023, the flag was solely based of off hand descriptions made of it while fluttering in the wind. It appears that Laredo picked one of these unofficial variants as their flag, but the entire article body acts as if that was the official flag of the Rio Grande.
