Star diameter
[edit]The article says "In 1854 the proportion of each flag color was set and in 1912 the star diameter was established." What is the star diameter? Vexilla-Mundi says it's half the size of the blue field, but V-M isn't terribly trustworthy, and they don't cite any sources. Can anyone confirm the above quote? dbenbenn | talk 14:36, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- The diameter of the star is indeed half the length of the blue square, as you can read in this document (in Spanish)--Janoma (talk) 17:26, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
Contest myth
[edit]Cantus: I don't mean to be a prick, but why are you erasing the myth about the flag contest? User:mfarah | talk 12:32, 1 January 2006 (GMT-3)
- Because it's baseless, and badly written. —Cantus]]…[[User talk:Cantus|☎ 06:13, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
- No, it's not - neither of the accusations are true. What's your argument for calling it baseless? On what grounds do you say it's "badly written"? Excuse me for trying to add real content to this page. :-( I'll reinstate the section. User:mfarah | talk 14:20, 3 January 2006 (GMT-3)
- The link of the second citation is broken. I think the statements are really baseless now.--Janoma (talk) 17:26, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
Chiloë
[edit]Does the island of Chiloé have a flag of its own? //Big Adamsky 11:33, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
- No. It's just an island, not even a region of its own.
The article claims that both the second and third versions of the flag were made official on October 18, 1817. I doubt that both flags were accepted on the same day, but I can't find any information to support either side.
Can somebody explain the usefullness or the point behind the explanation that the chilean flag may have been considered at some point(possibly at the begnning of the last century), by some people(presumably chileans), in some country (possibly chileans residing in Belgium, because if it happened in Belgium it has to be true?!?!) the second most "beautiful" flag and the second most "beautiful" national anthem (France perplexingly deemed first as if by placing second, and not first, it yields a greater imprimitur of validity or credibility to the ludicrous conclusion that Chilean symbols are runner-ups in the apparent competition deciding on quantifiable beauty. It might be more intellectually honset and decidedly more useful to say "many chileans believe they have the second best flag and second best national anthem" (although there is no evidence of this either, it certainly is a more accurate representation of what the author is attempting to set forth). As currently set forth, this entry demonstrates three things; quantifiable stupidity, a remarkable inferiority complex or a profound love of France.

[edit]I don't understand this line "According to Chilean law, citizens are required to display the flag on the Independence Day holiday (18 September). If the flag is displayed incorrectly, police may fine the person responsible". Does this mean that one 'must' display the flag or else gets someting coming to them? --Stefán Örvarr Sigmundsson 08:24, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- It's mandatory to display the flag that day, if not you will be charged some amount of money, and the flag must be displayed correctly too. But some people (just a minority) don't display it and they are not "punished" at all. I've never heard of someone affected by that rule, actually. --Dhcp 16:31, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Translation in progress
[edit]I've decided to tackle translating the good article from Spanish Wiki here, so bear with me as it may take a few days and several edits to iron out all the rough edges. Please feel free to help out so that maybe this article will make GA status, too! :) - Ruodyssey (talk) 18:12, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
Many months later, I have finally translated it all, but there's still room for improvement before it's GA-ready. Thanks. Ruodyssey (talk) 10:40, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
Add Flag of Malaysia to similar flags
[edit]Could someone add the flag of Malaysia to the list as it follows a similar format as the ones listed. It would bring a better understanding that it occurs outside the Americas besides Liberia. http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Flag_of_Malaysia —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gizziiusa (talk • contribs) 05:25, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
1817-18
[edit]The article say: "Despite initial enthusiasm, this flag did not obtain official legalization and disappeared five months later. One reason for its suppression was that it was easily confused with the flag of the Netherlands, flag of Yugoslavia to Serbia and Montenegro after the fall of Soviet Union or the tricolor of revolutionary France, from which it was inspired."
Somebody can explain why one reason for its was that it was easily confused with the flag of Yugoslavia to Serbia and Montenegro after the fall of Soviet Union...hey, 1817-18????--186.62.167.146 (talk) 01:30, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

[edit]In the first paragraph of the article it states that the flag of chile is the only flag in South America based off the United States flag, however, the flag of Uruguay is also based off of the American flag. Is there some reason why the article says this, maybe due to the color scheme or something of that nature? OneMoron (talk) 17:30, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
