Is Marty Bergmann's death in this crash notable?

[edit]

It made the national news, was noted by the Prime Minister, and was also noted and blogged by prominent news anchor Peter Mansbridge (who spoke at Marty's funeral). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.94.93.235 (talk) 23:01, 1 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Updates by the TSB

[edit]

Found some links that are useful to update this article with; the TSB had found that this crash may have been caused by a mid-air collision avoidance maneuver gone horribly wrong. There is also note that the flight data recorder was defective, though worked around the time of the crash.

The links to the recommendations can be found below, and the main report (still in investigation) and the CBC news article is below them:

Further updates by the TSB

[edit]

Press release cites the auto pilot "inadvertently changing modes" causing the aircraft to go off-course. The compass indicated that the aircraft would eventually cross the localizer so the pilot elected to continue the "unstable approach" and only agreeing to a go-around once it was too late.
