Merger of Hunterswood
[edit]Go for it, sure its only a few late-come houses anyhow, and while at it, drop the advertising for Scholars, who probably put it up in the first place.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.241.234.4 (talk • contribs) 17:50, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- Agree. Merge. Sarah777 (talk) 23:57, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
The Tallaght issue
[edit]Even if we accept that Firhouse isn't in Tallaght (which is debatable to say the least in terms of WP:COMMON usage), it most certainly borders Tallaght as obviously as it borders Knocklyon. Tallaght isn't several km away, only Tallaght Town centre is! Sarah777 (talk) 10:47, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Anyone who does'nt think Firhouse is in Tallaght needs their head examined, its in Dublin 24......Tallaght — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.97.84.114 (talk • contribs) 18:07, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
Scout Troop Information Removed
[edit]Why was information regarding the Scout Troop removed several times. There seems be one particular user editing content without purpose or reason. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.16.225.106 (talk • contribs) 20:48, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
School Article?
[edit]I would like to nominate myself to construct an article on the Firhouse Community College. I'm currently a student there and was wondering would it be article worthy? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Deanmullen09 (talk • contribs) 22:26, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
Pictures and Firhouse Community College's history?
[edit]The main picture is out of date, as the shop has been closed for years now, and Firhouse Village with its pub and two shops on the edge of the area might not be the best thing to represent Firhouse anyway. What about a picture of one of the parks, or maybe Firhouse shopping centre? Also, while the picture of Woodstown in the snow is nice, I always thought that was Knocklyon, not Firhouse, which means it shouldn't really be on the page. Finally, I don't know if the history of Firhouse Community College is relevant either, it's mostly trivia and information about the school plays. I'm just checking before I change either of them. 56 Chocolate (talk) 18:13, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
I'm actually going to answer myself here. The picture of Woodstown is definitely not Firhouse, it's Knocklyon. The sign in the picture even says 'Woodstown Village Centre Knocklyon', and if you actually go to the shops, they clearly state that they are Knocklyon. I'll try to find a better picture before deleting that one though, but it does have to go if it's not Firhouse. 56 Chocolate (talk) 11:08, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
Single-purpose account editing location
[edit]I've fixed this already today, but it's been unfixed again. Asserting that Firhouse is in the civil parish of Tallaght (no edit summary posted, but I queried to the user's Talk page), a single-purpose account has purported to move Firhouse into Tallaght. No one disputes which civil parish Firhouse is in, but no one suggests that Templeogue, Knocklyon, Piperstown (and other mountainy places) are in what we now call Tallaght, just because of the old CP. Firhouse is in fact historically in Knocklyon, but has had its own distinct identity for a long time (and as the article notes from a good source, there were even two settlements in the past). Not to make it personal, can a couple of other editors review? Thanks SeoR (talk) 20:51, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
Firhouse and other settlements in South Dublin planning
[edit]It may help to reassure any editor who feels that Firhouse belongs inside Tallaght to consult the County Development Plan and other documents. There is actually a very handy hierarchical order of communities for Dublin in general:
- Core - business core & high density population, retail & cultural activities - Dublin city centre and inner suburbs
- Consolidation areas (suburbs) - Palmerstown, Terenure, Rathfarnham, Templeogue, Ballyroan, Ballyboden, Knocklyon, Firhouse, Ballycullen, etc.
- Consolidation towns - Tallaght, Lucan (incl. Adamstown), Clondalkin
- Large growth towns - none in South Dublin
- Moderate growth towns - Saggart & Citywest together
- Small settlements - Newcastle, Rathcoole
This is a useful check on which districts are seen as having clear identity by the local authority. SeoR (talk) 09:32, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
Templeogue
[edit]Is it relevant at all that Templeogue is near Firhouse? Templeogue isn't a major area, it has no real cultural links to Firhouse and doesn't even border it. Does this need to stay in the article? LalalaOkay (talk) 23:09, 17 November 2019 (UTC)
Tallaght revisited
[edit]As noted in several previous discussions and edit summaries (including in Talk:Firhouse#Single-purpose account editing location and Talk:Firhouse#Firhouse and other settlements in South Dublin planning by SeoR and my own recent EDSUMM note), Firhouse is considered a distinct area for planning and local governance purposes. (As per refs on local electoral areas, electoral division areas, etc.) Yes, Firhouse is in the civil parish of Tallaght. But Tallaght civil parish is a very large area (covering more than 88 km²) and large swathes of the city and county. It is already stated that Firhouse is in the civil parish of Tallaght, but it is misleading to suggest that Firhouse falls within the administrative or residential area of Tallaght. (Just as misleading as it would be to suggest that Templeogue or even Kippure are in (the village/settlement/residential/administrative area) of Tallaght. Unless the IP-hopping/SPA editors, who continue to WP:EDITWAR on this issue, can provide sources (or even an explanation) to justify these changes, they can only be read as disruptive and nonconstructive. - I find it hard to believe that this has come up again. Why? I thought this was put to bed politely years ago (diff:[1]). I will come out of my rest period to act. Twilson r (talk) 15:56, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
