Importance Rating
[edit]I propose an importance rating of "Low". Please provide any feedback or comments by 00:00 27 May 2022 (UTC)
- I reviewed existing Low and Mid articles within Wikipedia:WikiProject_Computing.
- Low articles included; Talk:BlackBerry Limited, Talk:Asus EeeBook, Talk:Chromebook Pixel, Talk:Fire Phone, Talk:iPhone 4S
- Mid articles included; Talk:E Ink, Talk:Amazon Fire, Talk:Hitachi Data Systems*, Talk:Nvidia Tesla*
- * articles that are Low for WikiProject_Computing, but Mid for the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Computing/Computer_hardware_task_force)
Based on this review I suggest classifying Fire HD as "Low" - Waarmstr (talk) 15:06, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
European release
[edit]The 9 inches Kindle Fire HD has been released in France, Italy and Spain as well. --93.33.233.75 (talk) 13:19, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
Consideration for deletion
[edit]I believe that content on this page should be merged with Kindle Fire. I have marked this page for deletion, unaware of any merger template available. If you find one, you can replace it. ILarsona (talk) 01:21, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
- I agree. -Abhishikt (talk) 02:38, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
- I disagree, and oppose any merges. - BilCat (talk) 08:03, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
- I disagree, it's a whole new product and a new generation of the same family. - Pumapayam (talk) 16:18, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
- I disagree as well, as this is the second generation of the Kindle Fire series. It more than sufficiently meets the notability requirements. Mromson (talk) 16:22, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
- I don't see any reason why. I'd actually like to see another article created for the 8.9 in. version. Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 05:32, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
- I oppose the merge too. There are separate articles for different versions of iPad - why different generations of kindle fire shouldn't have separate articles too? Hakimio (talk) 13:46, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
Create an article fork for Kindle Fire and branch off all the versions? ILarsona (talk) 18:55, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Android Version
[edit]The official Amazon specifications page for developers says that the Kindle Fire HD runs a operating system based on Android 4.0.3, not 4.0.4 as listed in the article. Can anybody else confirm this? https://developer.amazon.com/sdk/fire/specifications.html Mangoman88 (talk) 01:07, 23 September 2013 (UTC)
I believe that the model numbers should be added in the tables. This is highly useful information, due to there being two different Kindle Fire HD 7" models with important differing features, the same name, but differing model numbers. This would be helpful, but less crucial, with the 8.9 models, which do have differing names (HD vs HDX). I know this from experience when shopping for a Kindle, and finding incorrect sales listings for Kindle Fire HD features that were only resolved once I found the model numbers.
Fourth generation
[edit]My Fire HD 7 clearly says it's a fourth generation in the settings (and you can search amazon.com and find 4th gen products), but this article numbers them off-by-one (it seems). Is the device itself counting the Kindle Fire (non-HD) as the first generation getting us to the fourth.. if so, that would probably need to be mentioned here.. or rather just renumber things so they match the device and news articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.107.95.37 (talk) 05:35, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
I agree, my fire says 3rd gen, but the 3rd gen on the wiki says it has a camera, which mine goes not. I think there is a missing 4th gen and the whole thing is screwed up — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.88.231.172 (talk) 02:07, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
- What happens is the late 2014 Fire HD tablet is the 3rd generation of the Fire HD line, but it is also part of the 4th generation of Kindle Fire tablets. It can be confusing because Amazon is using the same name for tablets each year. I added a detail about the 2014 tablets being part of the 4th generation. Frmorrison (talk) 16:20, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
- This needs to be noted in the article. I have updated the table to include Fire HD 6 and Fire HD 7 including the very much higher 252 PPI featured by the Fire HD 6. KJRehberg (talk) 08:38, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
- Indeed, the unreferenced "feature table" is somewhere between incorrect and confusing. Amazon refers to the 8.9-inch Fire HD as "second generation" [1], but this table calls the same model "first generation". -- Mikeblas (talk) 14:55, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
- Table still confusing - I have a second generation Fire HD 7 - no such listed Samatva (talk) 03:14, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

I've added a small table to the Kindle Fire page as I was finding the whole generations issue confusing as well. Feel free to improve it. Kookiethebird (talk) 23:54, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
2.5th generation?
[edit]The table refers to a 2.5th generation for the Fire HD 8.9" tablet but is that really the case? It was only released two months after the 7" version. Kookiethebird (talk) 00:01, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
New Hardware Table
[edit]I just made a merge of the tables for Fire TV, Fire, Fire HD, and Fire HDX to unify them and make them consistent. Instead of adding extra vertical rows for the Cellular models, I added them as new columns. Since adding cellular adds a bunch of extra rows, this condenses the tables considerably and makes it more legible in my opinion. Below is the entire table. I'm posting here for comments since the Fire HD is the most common model (excuse the poor formatting/cell merging, this is just a copy/paste from Excel, mostly):

Update 8" 2020
[edit]Supposedly according to Geekbench here are the stats/specs for the 2020 8"
Model Amazon MFONWI - Platform Android ARMv7 - OS Android 9 - CPU. ARM MT8168A - Memory 2.72 GB - GPU Mali-G52 MC1 - Display PPI 188
I am unfamiliar with the formatting requirements to update the table, so hopefully this information is useful for whoever normally takes care of this page.
