To begin[edit]

I started this article not realizing that there were a couple articles with similar content. There are List of films based on comics and List of films based on comic strips. There are differences, like the absence of "forthcoming" films and serials on this article. On the other hand, this one seems to be more complete than any of the others. It needs to be broken into alphabetical sections, though. Not sure what the next move should be. Rosencomet 19:46, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good work on this list. What you want to do now is to break out the information from this page into two lists: films based on comics and films based on comic strips, then merge those lists into the pre-existing pages, using the format already existing on those pages. I would do it now for ya, but I'm not sure about some of the films (i.e., I don't know if the source material was a comic or a comic strip). Good luck with the merge! Merge[edit]

Agree This entry should never have been created as the information is already covered in 2 other entries that have been around in one form or another for years. I'm sorry for the editor who put the time in but if anything had linked in here or it it had been categorised someone could have stepped in earlier and proposed this merge (techncially it is a split and a merge but will probably just be a change into a redirect as almost all of this information is already on the relevant entry). Thanks for the enthusiasm though and I hope this doesn't put you off contributing to the proper entries. As I've worked heavily on all the entries the information would be moved to I'd be happy to go through the list and check that we have all the information before shutting this entry down. Well, I don't agree that everything I've assembled here is on the other pages mentioned, but go ahead and merge them if you think that's best. I've separated them into two categories, but I think you have to consider the fact that several of these subjects are well known both in Comic Book and Comic Strip form; for instance, Howard the Duck, Spider-man, Popeye, Casper, Sad Sack, the Phantom, Ben Casey, and quite a few others. I sought to avoid the issue by combining them, but did not know at the time I was duplicating work by others. Please incorporate them rather than simply deleting, as I believe I've included titles not found in the others, and put those appropriate in both lists.
I also avoided the issue of films that are not full length. There have been quite a few shorts and animated specials of these subjects, like A Charlie Brown Christmas, and ones that never had full-length treatment, like Doonesbury. I someone interested in adressing this, or has it been addressed already? Rosencomet 23:31, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved a number over. Some others don't fit like Conan (book) or Casper (cartoon) and we have een through the various entries picking out examples like that. If some are based on both err on the side of the earliest appearance but if in doubt ask on a talk page. Again use your judgeent with films that aren't full length - with the Peanuts ones I used the entries list of feature films and defer to them unless someone argues convincingly against. Again take it up on the relevant talk page. I'll now redirect the main entry to List of films based on comics (as everything else is linked in from there). I'll leave this talk page but if anyone wants a quicker/comprehensive reply they'd be better off on the relevan entry. (Emperor 04:37, 3 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]
