Sources
[edit]There is a major lack of sources in this article. Although the article links to the BARB website, no link to the specific page about Fifth Gears ratings both in general or in caparison with other Five programmes is provided. The article makes several claims without reliable references to back them up, which needs fixing. I have cleaned up the article, although I was unable to find any reliable sources to support the article's claims - • The Giant Puffin • 15:48, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- This is a continuing problem with the article and I have done a few edits recently to clean-up the usual swaithe of pro-Top Gear stuff, notably from 82.7.19.184. I have tried and failed to contact the production company for help in clarifying some of the historical information. It's an ongoing project... --John Gibbard (talk) 11:44, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Requested move
[edit]Fifth Gear (TV series) → Fifth Gear
Having (TV series) after the name seems rather pointless. Fifth Gear was briefly redirected to Transmission (mechanics) (reverted to redirect here again) and that seems like it seems like could just be at the top, with or replacing the current gearbox link. -Ethan (talk) • 2007-06-11 07:01 (UTC)
I am treating this an uncontroversial. This article has been renamed from Fifth Gear (TV series) to Fifth Gear as the result of a move request. --Stemonitis 07:40, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Show Format incorrect?
[edit]If this is the 9th series, how can the 'Show Format' section refer to season 10 and 11 in the past tense? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.56.117.172 (talk) 20:02, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Generally the 'Season' numbers in the article seem to be all over the place and don't conform to this list on the official website.Dick G (talk) 23:14, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
- I have contacted the production company North One and the show website in order to clarify a number of inconsistencies in the article, season numbers, presenter line-ups and formats in particular. I shall edit based on response(s) in due course. --John Gibbard (talk) 12:56, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Season or Series
[edit]After reading the article I was left wondering why the article uses the American term season and not the British series which Five uses itself to describe the show's runs? This is most clearly shown on the show's site http://fifthgear.five.tv/index.htm .
This isn't a rant on American v British English but more on how perhaps we should use the language the show uses to describe itself. BigMacDaddy —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.133.113.228 (talk) 20:54, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- Support I think we should revert to 'series' throughout.--John Gibbard (talk) 12:18, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- Done :) --John Gibbard (talk) 12:26, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Request information of Fifth Gear Europe
[edit]Recently I have been watching Fifth Gear on youtube like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4UNzAugc2w If you have seen it, it happens to be Tim Schrick from D motor doing a "Fifth Gear" show speaking English with Non-english voice over but I couldn't find a pure English version without voice overs. So if someone happend to know about it, it would be appreciated if they could provide some information on the article. (TangoR34 (talk) 19:46, 9 August 2009 (UTC))
Cancellation
[edit]Regarding the alleged cancellation reported by the Daily Mail, there has still been no official confirmation on this. On the contrary, Jonny Smith has twitted that things are still on the bubble.[1] [2] --Ferengi (talk) 10:50, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
- Give that there has since been another series, the amount of detail in the "Cancellation rumours" section is far too excessive. If no-one posts any objections, I will shorten it. Anyone else wants to shorten it, feel free. I'm thinking simply along the lines of "Despite rumours of its cancellation,(refs) series 17 of the show aired in June 2010." Halsteadk (talk) 10:15, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
Sorry I don't know how to make a new section, but the running time in the box to the right needs updating! Thanks. --81.157.5.49 (talk) 19:46, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
Has The Show Moved To Discovery?
[edit]I noticed that Fifth Gear was airing on Discovery UK last week and assumed it would just be a repeat from Channel 5. I recorded it anyway, but when I watched the recording I didn't recognise the episode, even if the feature on a souped-up Capri seemed vaguely familiar. The episode seemed to be up-to-date with mention of the new Ghibli diesel and was tagged by Virgin as being Series 24, first aired March 2014. So, has Discovery bought the show, and if so when did that happen? I didn't know anything about it and have continued to look-out for the show on Five. Can someone please update the main article seeing as it appears to have retained the same name, so that other people are made aware of the move.
I've just noticed that the first paragraph of the article briefly states that the show went to Discovery in 2012, but that should be elaborated upon really, with its own section referencing various online articles and press releases in-which C5, Discovery and the actual programme-maker comment. Also, the article contains no details of the individual Series 24 episodes. And lastly, did Discovery sit on the show for a while seeing as I've noted above that Series 24 apparently first-aired this year. BTW, the presenters for the episode that I watched were: Tiff, Jonny, Vicki and Jason. Cheers, JD 13.20, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
