Eight Miles High banned by the BBC
[edit]I have removed all mentions of "Eight Miles High" having been banned by the BBC from the article, along with an inline reference directing to The Times article "The music the BBC banned" (found here), because in fact, this record was not banned by the BBC. The single was banned by many radio stations in the USA but not by the BBC. Although The Times article says that the song was banned, this is an error and you will not find any official BBC sources corroborating this erroneous information. In addition, several notable books on The Byrds, including Johnny Rogan's Timeless Flight Revisited (second edition p.162) and Christopher Hjort's So You Want to Be a Rock 'n' Roll Star (p.94) specifically state that the record was not banned by the BBC. Furthermore, a contemporary statement from a BBC spokesman published in the May 14, 1966 edition of Melody Maker makes plain that the BBC do not intend to ban the record. --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 14:48, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

"Captain Soul"?
[edit]Who played the tambourine heard on "Captain Soul"?ButchersTaleWesternFront1914Floral (talk) 01:15, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
- I don't think there is a tambourine on "Captain Soul". Certainly, I can't hear one. There is a very trebley high-hat and also percussive hand-claps, but no tambourine, I don't believe. --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 18:49, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
- No I heard a tambourine, just take a hard listen to the right channel of your headphones. 24.247.218.39 (talk) 20:33, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
- Well, I think you're wrong, but regardless of that, hearing something in your headphones isn't a good enough source to include the instrument in the "Personnel" section of the article. You'll need to find a reliable source that confirms its presence, if you want to include it. --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 13:04, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

- Translation: "Waaahhh!!! The mean people at Wikipedia won't let me put whatever the f**k I want to on there with impunity...waaahhh!!!" Not only do we not have a reliable source confirming that there is tambourine on the track, but we also have no idea who might be playing it. How could we list it in the "Personnel" section without those details, let alone a reliable source? The threshold for inclusion on Wikpiedia is verifiability: "content is determined by previously published information rather than the beliefs or experiences of its editors. Even if you're sure something is true, it must be verifiable before you can add it." You'd do well to read the verifiability page linked to above if you want to edit Wikipedia. Thanks. --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 19:29, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

Gene Clark's presence on "Captain Soul"
[edit]"Captain Soul" was recorded in April and May 1966, why would Gene Clark play on that song if he exited the Byrds in February following his freakout? Foreverchanges1167 (talk) 19:21, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
- I guess because he was still on good terms with some, if not all, of the band members. Although he had left the group by then, he was invited back into the studio for a guest appearance on that track. It's kinda like how Chris Hillman and Michael Clark both played on Clark's first solo album in mid-1966, just a few months after the "Captain Soul" sessions. Or how Clark was invited back into the Byrds during the Notorious Byrd Brothers sessions. He was clearly still on speaking terms with his ex-band mates. --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 11:10, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for the information. Foreverchanges1167 (talk) 15:53, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
Another dimension
[edit]Just a question : why is the link to "another dimension" erased, and the page to this Sundazed released wiped ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by W@rrior 67 (talk • contribs) 07:44, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- I had nothing to do with it, but I believe it was because the Another Dimension article didn't demonstrate that it was a notable enough album release for coverage on Wikipedia. Wikipedia articles need to meet the notability criteria, which is there to prevent indiscriminate inclusion of topics. So, an article's subject must be notable, or "worthy of notice", enough to have reliable third-party sources available supporting the information on the topic. My personal feeling is that the request for deletion was, in this case, correct: I don't believe that Another Dimension is a notable enough compilation to warrant inclusion on Wikipedia. Other may disagree with me. --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 15:10, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
