Edge city

[edit]

I have never heard of the term edge city. I suspect it is an east coast term. Federal Way has been referred to as a Bedroom Community for as long as I've lived in the area (a long, long, long time). The boundaries weren't quite right, close but it was cleaner to start at the sound and move clockwise. Federal Way proper shares no border with Auburn, yet... though I'm sure that will change in the next five years. So, have fun. --Geneb1955 15:39, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edge cities are not an "east coast" thing, although edge cities are more common there given the higher population density on the east coast. The Seattle-Tacoma metroplex has four edge cities: Everett, Bellevue, Kent, and Renton. Federal Way is not included in that list in that Federal Way has more bedrooms than offices. That would make Federal Way a bedroom community, just like you said. However, with the explosive growth in industry in Federal Way, it might not remain a bedroom community for long. -- ShinmaWa(talk) 19:43, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

picture

[edit]

The picture being used isn't of Federal Way, it's a picture from Federal Ways shore showing Tacoma in the distance. DOes anyone have something more distinct to Federal Way, like a photo of the commons or something? QuirkyAndSuch 06:20, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I took that picture. At least it shows Federal Way as being somewhere geographically interesting. The current picture is a freaking low-resolution Target advertisment, power transmission lines and the region's most pathetic shopping mall framing a clock on top of a bus parking garage. That is the part of Federal Way I rather pretend does not exist. I grew up in Federal Way and I would rather see the beach and some trees instead of the 'ghetto' part of the city. Then again, the place has gotten mostly dumped-on by King County stuffing it full of apartments and subsidized housing.
How is 'The Commons' distinctive to Federal Way? It is a seriously-ugly, economically depressed shopping mall. If that's how 'Federal Way' sees itself, then Federal Way has a serious identity crisis. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.22.123.87 (talk) 07:59, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Federal Way/Tri-Cities dispute

[edit]

There is a dispute at Template talk:Washington about whether or not Federal Way should be listed as a large city instead of the Tri-Cities. Please view the discussion and help us come to a conclusion. QuirkyAndSuch (talk) 06:01, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

History? Name?

[edit]

Just came here hoping to read something about the history of the city as well as why the name? Thanks. --70.61.104.62 (talk) 23:20, 6 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article has a history section, both now and in 2016, also explaining the name. Art LaPella (talk) 21:20, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
