My criteria

[edit]

I've added a subset of articles I found on the Faust article. My criteria is those that are actually called Faust (or Faust is a key word in the title) and were "notable." The idea is if people are looking for those, they are likely to enter Faust. Putting these here will save those people searching the list. John (Jwy) 06:16, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested Merge

[edit]

I don't think so. This is a disambiguation page for people to quickly find something in particular when they enter Faust. In most cases, what they are looking for will be an article listed on this page and not very likely to be a particular item on the other page. See the criteria above. Adding all the information from the other page would slow down the process of navigating (which is the purpose of a disambiguation page). Why do you want to merge the pages? I have no problem with maintaining two seperate pages but someone — and I have other fish to fry — then needs to separate the wheat from the chaff, the sheep from the goats, etc. There is too much chaff and too little wheat on Faust (disambiguation). — Robert Greer (talk) 19:12, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Robert, if both wheat and chaff are 1) notable enough to have an article and 2) are very likely to have someone look for them with the search term Faust, then both wheat and chaff belong here. When I finishing frying some fish, I'll take a closer look with that criteria in mind. (John User:Jwy talk) 21:19, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've cleaned up the page some. Looking at the "works" page, I see several notable (some VERY notable) works that are known generally simply as Faust (Berlioz for example) that probably belong here. If you identify others, we can should move them over. That kind of merge I would have no objection to. A wholesale incorporation of that page here, however, is inappropriate. I've cleaned up the page some. Are there particular Fausts that you would move over? (John User:Jwy talk) 15:29, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
the above moved here from User talk:Robertgreer
I made two very slight changes to Faust (disambiguation) and Works based on Faust; Goethe's, Marlowe's, Newman's and Kanso's works appeared in both (they're now just in the former) and there was an extraneous (disambiguation) after Saint Faustus (it's gone.) ---details of edits to this page removed for brevity (john) — Robert Greer (talk) 13:13, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm fine (in fact happy) with the pruning in general. Except the removal of G, M, N and K's works. The two pages serve different purposes: "Works based on. . ." is an exhaustive list of notable works (or non-notable works by notable people) with strong "Faustian" content. G, M, N and K's work qualify. The disambiguation page is for people who enter Faust looking for things one would normally expect to find here just by the name Faust. So G, M, N and K's works qualify there as well. I plan to add them back in. Also, I'll add a phrase to the Saints entry to indicate there are more than one such saints (the "disambiguation" wasn't all that clear here. Thanks! If this is okay, can we remove the merge tags? (John User:Jwy talk) 14:37, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
