Fang (town)[edit]

I don't want to get into a pissing contest with you, but I must take exception. I think WP should enlighten and assist, not confuse people. A few points: a) every other mention I can find in WP calls the town "Fang" (ฝาง). b) Google Maps calls it Fang. c) The Roadway (Thai) map I am looking at calls it: "อ. ฝาว Fang". d) In my two trips to Fang (I live in Chiang Mai) over the past two months, my Thai friends referred to it as Fang, not Wiang Fang. This is a rather general issue with Wikipedia's treatment of Thai settlement articles. Town/city articles are usually based on their governing municipality, but the municipalities' names don't always match what most people use to refer to the area (which is usually the district name). --Paul_012 (talk) 15:58, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2024[edit]

I would like to clarify some points regarding the administrative divisions within Fang District, Chiang Mai Province. It seems there might be some confusion about the distinction between Wiang Fang Subdistrict Municipality and Fang District, as well as the location of Doi Ang Khang.

Firstly, Wiang Fang Subdistrict Municipality (เทศบาลตำบลเวียงฝาง) is not synonymous with Fang District (อำเภอฝาง). Wiang Fang Subdistrict Municipality only covers part of Wiang Subdistrict (ตำบลเวียง), whereas Fang District is a larger administrative area.

Although Doi Ang Khang (ดอยอ่างขาง) is indeed located within Fang District, it does not fall within the jurisdiction of Wiang Fang Subdistrict Municipality.

To provide a clearer picture, Fang District is divided into 10 local administrative organizations as follows:

Wiang Fang Subdistrict Municipality: Covers part of Wiang Subdistrict. Ban Mae Kha Subdistrict Municipality: Covers part of Mae Kha Subdistrict. Mae Kha Subdistrict Municipality: Covers Mae Kha Subdistrict (excluding areas within Ban Mae Kha Subdistrict Municipality). San Sai Subdistrict Municipality: Covers the entirety of San Sai Subdistrict. Wiang Subdistrict Administrative Organization: Covers areas of Wiang Subdistrict not included within Wiang Fang Subdistrict Municipality. Mon Pin Subdistrict Administrative Organization: Covers the entirety of Mon Pin Subdistrict. Mae Ngon Subdistrict Administrative Organization: Covers the entirety of Mae Ngon Subdistrict. Mae Soon Subdistrict Administrative Organization: Covers the entirety of Mae Soon Subdistrict. Mae Ka Subdistrict Administrative Organization: Covers the entirety of Mae Ka Subdistrict. Pong Nam Ron Subdistrict Administrative Organization: Covers the entirety of Pong Nam Ron Subdistrict. Shalom503, discussion about edits made to the article should be discussed here on the article talk page. There's no need to repeat the same message about the article scope on other editors' user talk pages, especially when it is irrelevant to why you are being reverted.

The reason you were reverted is because the content you added is inherently unencyclopedic in tone. Language like "Nestled amongst the majestic peaks of northern Thailand's Chiang Mai Province lies the charming town of Fang" is totally inappropriate for Wikipedia.

As for the comments you made about the distinction between the local administration (municipality) and provincial administration (amphoe/tambon), yes, we are well aware of that. This article is about the municipality. The article about the amphoe is at Fang district. I'm not sure why you're repeatedly trying to bring this up, as I don't see any confusion in the article as-is.
