Name change

[edit]

Holly Knoll Drive (Rt 6220) to Algonkian Parkway, approved 7/10/06 by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. Minutes are here. Search for "Holly Knoll" or "Algonkian Parkway". Although they do call Rte 7 "Lee Highway" but that's not right at all, so nevermind that. --MPD T / C 08:14, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

References needed for the following

[edit]

I haven't found anything yet that specifically states that Virginia acquired land for the Outer Beltway. Could the corridor have been kept free by Reston's master plan? Probably not, since Reston doesn't go that far south. --NE2 05:51, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The following opening dates should be narrowed down if possible:

  • I-66 to US 50
  • Stringfellow to Franklin Farm
  • Rolling to Pohick
  • Lee Chapel to SR 123
  • US 1 to Telegraph
  • Telegraph to Fullerton
  • Sugarland to SR 7

Some or all may be in the article "After 16 years, $620 million, parkway finally earns its name" from the Centreville Times, November 8, 2001. Can somebody in the area check it out? --NE2 22:30, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

State routes need to be changed to county routes.

[edit]

All references need to be changed to county route. This is not a state maintained road.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Compctech (talkcontribs)

No, it's a secondary road, and is state-maintained. Virginia has no county roads. And please sign your comments. --MPD T / C 01:48, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Funding

[edit]

I seem to recall that there was a bit of a fuss about the funding for this road because normally the counties have no authority to fund nor build roads (except for Arlington and Henrico counties) due to the way the Byrd Road Act is set up. Does anyone remember any of the details about that? It might be an appropriate paragraph somewhere because this road was an exception to the norm. 1995hoo (talk) 15:17, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Signs haven't been changed yet

[edit]

I drive the Parkway everyday, and no signs have been changed yet from 7100 to 286. Should we not change the numbers until the signs are actually changed, especially since the article says "signed as..."? We should at least mention this. They say it could be up to three months to change the signs. In OpenStreetMap we won't change the numbers until the signs actually change (not that some haven't tried, but others find a happy medium by adding it as "fut_ref=SR 286"). -- Joshdoe (talk) 01:55, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, keep it as is because Wikipedia displays technical information; this article is no exception. However, I don't think we should state it "signed as SR 286" yet... And just an update: I haven't seen any 286 signs as of 17 March 2012. 69.255.19.141 (talk) 04:11, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't seen any signs either. We shouldn't say it's signed as SR 286 until it's actually, well, signed as SR 286. Doctor Whom (talk) 02:06, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
They've already started changing the shields... on Google Maps at least. 69.255.19.141 (talk) 01:24, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Signs went up last night. — AKADriver 11:52, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As of 6 June, 286 North/South signs were posted on the ramps from VA 123 to the parkway, and there are 286 signs from 123 to US 50, as well as large median signs reading "Fairfax County Parkway NOW 286 Old 7100" --séain (talk) 17:01, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
