F. agrestis: human use?

[edit]

I notice that one species of this genus, fadogia agrestis, is being promoted on the web as a male supplement, based on animal studies. There are other traditional uses in humans in its native Africa. There are also concerns about health risks due to cytotoxicity, including hepatotoxicity and damage to other organs. IMHO, this gives enough notability to give it brief mention, if only to emphasize risks and absence of clinical evidence. Rather than shoe-horn a one-liner into this article, I would first add an article on the species, if only a stub. This looks more like a rainy weekend project, so this comment is really a note-to-self. But if anyone else wants to take it on, please do -- I'm not hoggish! Botanically speaking, the species Fadogia agrestis is a synonym of Vangueria agrestis. This was formalised in 2005 (see https://doi.org/10.1007/s00606-005-0313-9). Vangueria agrestis already has a Wikipedia page. Orbicule (talk) 10:52, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
