Nice
[edit]It seems to me that DNA microarrays are used EVALUATE COMPARATIVE diffences in gene TRANSCRIPTION LEVELS, and not to DETERMINE GENE EXPRESSION. The nuance may be subtle... Also, it would be a good idea to explain from where and when a value of 6 million known ESTs as been approximated.
Another topic of interest : Being derived from mRNAs by retro-transcription, are poly-A primers used or random ones? Does it mean that there can be introns in the sequences (as if the cDNAs were obtained from non-spliced mRNAs) as well as 3' and 5' untranslated regions?
Very good article. Marooned Morlock (talk | contribs) 08:48, 11 May 2006
Patents on EST's
[edit]Does anyone have any thoughts on adding to this article information on patent requests on EST's by various BioTech companies? I do recall a story done on a major TV newsmagazine, possibly 20/20 or 60 Minutes, but it was some time ago and I haven't heard much from the mainstream news recently on this. Google produces a significant number of results for the search +patent +gene, but is there enough referenceable info to warrant a separate article for this topic? Page needs updating
[edit]There's still a section stating "as of 2006", surely this means the page needs a freshening up? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Louismaddox (talk • contribs) 05:07, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
