Unrelated US program

Will move this page to Everyday Rewards (Australia) and disambiguate rather than having info for both Aus and US programs on same page - they are unrelated. Murtoa (talk) 05:49, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Privacy

Hello Bidgee,

You reverted a number of my edits in the past few days. A number of the same criticisms are made of loyalty cards in general on Loyalty_program#Criticism. You state that I don't have a Neutral Point Of View. I am not stating an opinion as a fact. The barcode on each Rewards Card is unique (read my sources) and transactions are tied to that ID. Registered Rewards Cards also have personal information connected to that ID (see my sources, again).

A rewards card cannot store transactions; it is just a barcode. Woolworths has to store at least some information about each transaction, because it is used at Caltex fuel stations when over $30 is spent (in a transaction). But is knowing this even necessary? Because once a customer gives their ID to Woolworths, their systems already have everything they need to link that customer's personal information to the that transaction. The issue is not that the data may (or may not) be stored, but collected in the first place. 203.24.101.3 (talk) 23:15, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

Seattlepi states nothing about ER. You're clearly doing OR by using sources that have no connection to ER and using ER's site to make your POV point. Bidgee (talk) 23:48, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

Where did I state that? I'm stating to you that you will need a source that states ER stores purchase/transaction history and that it's a privacy issue (it needs to be one source that states it and your OR with cited sources that has no connection). Bidgee (talk) 03:06, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

I do think you need a source which demonstrates the link with privacy issues. At the moment I think that's not the case. Murtoa (talk) 10:48, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
Agreed I removed this years ago, since crikey is hardly a good source, and the article in question is mostly about profit increases. The article was also written when the loyalty card had only just been released, and mentions a concern that customers would be forced to use the card to gain the fuel discount (which 5 years later is not the case). In the case of the similar flybuys program, flybuys was opening the data to third parties. I think that to keep this section in, it must read something like "Like most loyalty card systems, ERD has been criticised for its potential privacy concerns" and it needs to be better sourced (not a blog post talking about something else).
