Proposed Changes

Change reference to eons to millenia; Eon is a billion years and the Eve Online history is only in the tens of thousands range.[1]

Developer misconduct repeated

The article needs to be updated with the fact that developer misconduct which has been mentioned within the article has been repeated, favouring an out of game for-profit gambling site rather than an ingame entity providing content the first time it occured.

This company has gone rogue and the article needs to be updated to reflect this.

Game milestones

Should there be a milestones or history section? How would events be selected/curated? I'm thinking specifically of the recent "Titanomachy" event where enormous numbers of players destroyed staggeringly large sums of material. --RussellKent (talk) 19:39, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

Under the header 'Volunteer program' not all the different subgroups of ISD (Interstellar Service Department) are mentioned. One is missing: CCL (Community Communications Liaisons). Why are these links even there? These games aren't mentioned anywhere else in the page and these are NOT player-driven space MMORPG (cause they are not player-driven and not even real full MMO). These links have nothing to do in this article.

Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen can be considered some of EVE Online's closest counterparts/competitors - in that they are massively multiplayer "single-shard" games set in space. DarkMalfunction (talk) 16:13, 1 October 2015 (UTC)

Add a section on "Project Discovery" to the EVE Online wiki page.

CCP, in collaboration with MMOS [1] has recently added "Project Discovery" [2] to EVE Online. This new functionality allows players in EVE Online to actively participate in a real-life science project, the Subcellular Protein Atlas [3] at the Human Protein Atlas[4].

This is a very noteworthy development, as it leverages Citizen Science in a new way by integrating it into an existing game itself. Players can obtain in-game rewards for their efforts, which provides a clear incentive. At the same time, information is provided on the scientific background of the project, thus acting as science communication at the same time.

Interestingly, another first is that the 'Professor Lundberg' NPC character in EVE Online that coordinates Project Discovery, is a direct representation of Prof. Dr. Emma Lundberg [5], the responsible scientist for the Subcellular Protein Atlas [6] at the Human Protein Atlas[7].

Because of the novelty of this concept, and its warm reception by the EVE Online community, I would recommend adding a section in the EVE Online wiki page on Project Discovery.

Possible links:

  • Link from the Citizen Science Wiki page, possibly from the Internet section; although because of the novelty of this approach it may be good to create a new section for "in-game citizen science projects" there.
  • Link from the Human Protein Atlas page.

Possible new page in the future:

As the Project Discovery progresses, a separate page can be imagined that is linked out from the EVE Online page, and from the Citizen Science page. This page can be used to list currently running as well as previously ran projects, provide relevant statistics for each project, as well as any notable results .

Extremely outdated screenshots

The screenshots of this game as shown in the article are extremely outdated. EVE Online gets regular graphics engine updates. I'd be willing to take new, high quality screenshots of the same subjects already existing so that it does not involve much work to update the article.

The page needs a section that covers a brief history of the player empires, as there is quite a history there which the page ignores and is important to the development of the game.

Criticism

Too bad there is no section on criticism of the game. There is a lot of problems that surround it ranging from fraud constantly committed by devs like in-game currency artificial inflation (players pay real moneys to buy in game one, but its value quickly vanishes) to a complete lack of balance between players. This game is of kind pay to win making it less attractive. I don't get why such important points are missing from here. AXONOV (talk) 12:15, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

In my opinion there should be a link to the X game series page in the 'see also' section, or at least to the most recent one - X4: Foundations. X game series mechanics and gameplay have pararells to those in EVE Online that for me warrant that addidtion next to other similar games in the 'see also' section like Elite Dangerous.Ggamer2 (talk) 09:50, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
