Quick question..

[edit]

The introduction states that Evanton is 'is a small town, or rather, a large village' - so which is it? Just seems a bit odd to refer to it as both a small town and a large village. I think this should be clarified. Regards, Asdfasdf1231234 (talk) 22:53, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How long is a piece of string? It could be term one or the other depending on how an individual uses these terms. Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 04:39, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alexander Fraser of Inchcoulter was a Grenada planter, and his son Evan Baillie Fraser (born in Grenada in 1800) was named after Evan Baillie of Dochfour, Inverness, a St Vincent merchant and planter, later a major Bristol banker and MP for the city, and brother of James Baillie, MP, who owned the Hermitage plantation on Grenada - an Evanton Street is named after it. it might be a good idea to mention the Caribbean link - see the Slaves and Highlanders website and the UCL material on Scottish slave compensation, which indicates details of Alexander Fraser's claim. Also see Douglas Hamilton Scotland, the Caribbean and the Atlantic world, which discusses Alexander Fraser's relationship with the Baillies. Suggest - as a minimum - inserting "the Grenada planter" before the first mention of Alexander Fraser's name.Croy379 (talk) 11:55, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
