Structure of the Estonian Army

[edit]

I made the graphic of the structure of the Estonian Army, but since there is little information about the exact structure of the Estonian Army on the net (i.e. regarding the Logistics Bataillon) there might be 1 or 2 errors in the graphic and I'll correct them, if they are brought to my knowledge. Um, Tallin is writed with two N's. Tallinn not Tallin.

Something should be done about the reference to service branches. Currently it is not right. The top level is Ministry of Defence, which governs the Estonian Defence Forces and the Estonian Defence League. Thus, the EDL is NOT part of the EDF and shouldn't be considered a service branch. Any reference to it as such should be removed. Same goes for the Organization section, where the EDL doesn't belong. It should at least be referenced in a different general section for the Estonian military. The most logical structure for the articles would be to have the Military of Estonia lead to either its own article or at least the Ministry of Defence article (which really needs to be expanded anyway). This would in turn reference the Estonian Defence Forces, the Estonian Defence League and other branches under its direct command. --Estonian1885 (talk) 16:24, 13 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Strength of EDF

[edit]

As fas as I know:

  • Active Force: 3.800 soldiers ( of whom about 1500 conscripts)
  • Army: 3.300
  • Navy: 300
  • Air Force: 200
  • Reserve: 12.200
  • Kaitseliit: 11.000 ( + 9.000 volunteers from suborganizations )

These numbers are from 2009, I think. Could somebody of the native speakers do some research about the current strength of the estonian defence forces? --Dias87 (talk) 05:43, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The History of Estonian Army

[edit]

since this seems to be the main article about Estonian Army, it's going to need a major section regarding the history.--Termer 09:33, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Who keeps editing the reserve part? It is 100,000 not 46,000 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.196.43.192 (talk) 16:11, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do not vandalize this article. The number of reservists is around 46,000 not 100,000 (former SA reservists are not considered into the Reserv Army). This is not a personal webpage for fantasy numbers. Karabinier 21:28, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I thought Israel supplied a large quantity of IMI Galil assault rifles? Martintg (talk) 20:06, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Galil rifles were obtained during the notarius 1994 arms deal session between Israel and Estonia; along with Sergei AA guns, machine guns, Antitank systems Mapats, mortars etc. The deal made up nearly 16% of the Estonian GDP in 1994 - as Estonia had no weapons to give for the military of Estonia (Unlike Georgia or Armenia who declared all the military hardware of their soil theirs - SA left Estonia without handing over the tanks, missiles, gunships, fighters etc.) Karabinier 00:55, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

—Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.126.101.133 (talk) 20:43, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Artikkel põhineb reaalsel ja ametlikul informatsioonil mitte a la 100 tuhat meest on püssi all õhtuks. Nõukogude armee veterane ei arvata Eestis reserv armee koosseisu.Karabinier 00:55, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ametlik, ametlik... Selline asi võtab ikka vanduma. Kuidas sa põhjendad teiste uuenduste kustutamist? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.196.43.192 (talk) 18:42, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Karabinier 16:28, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tundub et see on sinu isiklik koduleht. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.196.43.53 (talk) 17:25, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Terminoloogia ja õiged inglise k nimed

Kui kellelgi on võimalusi või aega, võiks ta need muutused ja täpsustused artiklitesse sisse viia. Please do this changes, if You have time or rights.

—Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.131.112.136 (talk) 16:33, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hollandilt osteti 44 CV9035NL jalaväelahingmasinat. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.196.174.31 (talk) 17:55, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Budget

[edit]

These World Bank figures claim Estonia has the highest military expenditure as % GDP in the world - [1]. The figures seem to greatly contradict others I've read elsewhere, but if they are true that surely is a notable fact worth commenting upon. ZackMartin (talk) 09:42, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Article naming

[edit]

Shouldn't this article be called "Estonian Defence Forces" or "Defence Forces of Estonia" or something? It looks a bit awkward as it is..? Yakikaki (talk) 11:37, 11 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Reliable sources

[edit]

I have noticed that the information provided in "IISS. The Military Balance 2017" is often incorrect and thus should only be used if no other alternative source is available. Among the incorrect data: population number, reintroduction of conscription (it was never abolished), reserve size, incorrect number of IFVs, incorrect data about aircraft of the border guard, incorrect figures for deployments and possibly other information that I was unable to verify. Treat this source with caution. --Estonian1885 (talk) 07:59, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Conscripts in Scouts Battalion

[edit]

A recent edit claimed that there are no conscripts in the Scouts Battalion. While this has been true in the past, since at least 2017 there are some conscripts in service there. They serve as mechanized infantry. Conscripts in Scouts Battalion (in Estonian) --Estonian1885 (talk) 20:17, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
