Article name

[edit]

Estelle Morris is known exclusively as Estelle Morris as per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (names and titles)#Other non-royal names - 2. Life Peers the article title should not include her life peerage.

The reason this was done as a Cut-and-Paste move is that it had been moved in this fashion (in reverse) in January.

I will move it back to Estelle Morris. If you want to dispute this then do so here. Engage constructively and prove me wrong. Frelke 11:15, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

See Help:Moving a page. (As for "The reason this was done as a Cut-and-Paste move is that it had been moved in this fashion (in reverse) in January", all I can say is "no it wasn't". See its history if you don't believe me.) If you hadn't cut-and-pasted, you could have overwritten the redirect yourself. Proteus (Talk) 11:25, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well I'm totally confused now. How should it be moved then ?Frelke 11:31, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well I had to delete Estelle Morris so that I could move it there. Proteus (Talk) 14:24, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Married?

[edit]

Can we source whether she is married (and if so to whom)? BlueValour 03:30, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was not moved. The person apparently continues to be largely known, personally as well as professionally, by her pre-titular name. --rgpk (comment) 16:57, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Estelle MorrisEstelle Morris, Baroness Morris of Yardley. Relisted in hopes of broader discussion. Orlady (talk) 05:21, 26 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose - Best known widely for being the Education Secretary, Member of the House of Commons and for her column in the Guardian. Not known by her title and no disambiguation is required for this title.--Lucy-marie (talk) 14:37, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Support. WP:NCPEER is quite clear. This peeress is no longer wholly or exclusively known by her pre-peerage nomenclature. Kittybrewster 15:15, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Support. Politicians who have been ennobled are almost invariably known by their titles thereafter. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:42, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Comment - She doesnt write for the Guardian under her ennobled title she just uses Estelle Morris as shown here, so she is known to the readers of the Guardian as just Estelle Morris.
The above discussion is preserved as an archive of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

post parliamentary career?

[edit]

The article mentions that as part of her post-parliamentary career she became a baroness. In other words, after leaving parliament, she became a member of parliament, since parliament consists of two houses, the commons and lords. The article in fact suggests that she has only not been a member of parliament for about 8 days since 1992.(ie the gap between leaving the commons and joining the lords)Sandpiper (talk) 23:15, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Undiscussed move

[edit]

I have just reverted an undiscussed move from 2014 whcih was clearly against the consensus on this talk page. I am happy to have another RM if editors feel that the article should move. CalzGuy (talk) 13:14, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Resignation

[edit]

This is a very poor article because it fails to touch upon the popular wisdom that she resigned her post because she was not the Secretary of State for Education at all. High level education policy was in the hands of the infamously unelected Andrew Adonis, who had a direct line to the prime minister Tony Blair. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2003/may/13/labour.uk2 https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2002/oct/27/publicservices.schools https://www.tes.com/news/so-farewell-then-lord-adonis-guru-academies — Preceding unsigned comment added by Optymystic (talkcontribs) 16:24, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
