RDF Television wins children’s television event order from the BBC

Added 22 Mar 2007

RDF Television’s Family Entertainment division, headed up by RDF’s Family Entertainment Director Nigel Pickard, is delighted to announce a major children’s commission, Escape from Adventure Island (working title).

Escape from Adventure Island will be the biggest, toughest and most ambitious game show for children on television. The series follows a group of ten children aged between 11 - 14 taking on a series of mental and physical challenges. Escape from Adventure Island will be filmed on a remote Island off the coast of Brazil this summer. Viewers will watch the action build day by day as the action moves from the beach to the jungle and then finally to the exhilarating climax as they take on the summit.

Escape from Adventure Island will be broadcast as a CBBC event on BBCs One and Two later this year. This series will be broadcast over three weeks on weekdays with a catch-up show on Saturdays and the CBBC channel will have its own switchover show, a total of 24 hours of Escape from Adventure Island action. The series will also be accompanied by a major multimedia campaign.

Escape from Adventure Island has been commissioned by Anne Gilchrist, CBBC’s Creative Director. The executive producer for the BBC is Kim Shillinglaw and the executive producers for RDF are Nigel Pickard and Caroline El-Marazki (Smile, Globo Loco, Ministry of Mayhem). Andrew Norgate (Fear Factor, T4 On the Pitch) is the series producer.

Anne Gilchrist said: “Escape from Adventure Island will be a massive event in the CBBC schedules this autumn – it will give children the opportunity to play big, exciting games in a challenging location. I’m delighted that RDF will be bringing their considerable skills and experience to this ambitious project.”

Nigel Pickard said: “We’re extremely excited about producing Escape from Adventure Island for the BBC. It promises to be a television event that children won’t want to miss a moment of. This will be the show that every child wishing for an adventure would love to be a part of.”
