The place of birth was given as "Saint Peter in der Au". However, the indicated source [1] says only that he grew up there, it does not say that he was born there. According to several other sources (Kürschners Deutscher Gelehrtenkalender vol. 25, Who's Who in Science and Engineering vol. 5, Who's Who in America vol. 60, German Wikipedia entry) he was born in Steyr. The first of these three sources are most probably based on data provided by himself. Also his CV, compiled very probably by himself (http://www.astro.keele.ac.uk/AGBnews/archive/Zinner_attachments.pdf), indicates Steyr as the plae of birth.
