[edit]"On 10 May 1803, aged 16" - from the date of birth given, 1884, he'd be 19. Someone's changed one of the numbers. 79.78.171.130 (talk) 22:36, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
Currently "in October 1826, Louise secretly married one of her lovers" appears in #2 Marriages and children. Is there any reason not to mention the name mentioned in the parallel section of the English article on her [1] and in the German version [2]? On the other hand since the German article on Ernest [3] doesn't mention her affairs or re-marriage perhaps "There were scandals: one of the Court Chamberlains, a charming and cultivated man of Jewish extraction, was talked of; at last there was a separation, followed by a divorce." and "As heirs to Coburg, the children remained with their father. Seven months after the divorce, in October 1826, Louise secretly married one of her lovers." should be deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mcljlm (talk • contribs) 17:33, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
Infobox
[edit]Hi User:Celia Homeford and anyone else reading this. I have brought this discussion here to avoid an edit war. The edits I made were carried out because information in the current infobox is not factually correct. The infobox cites Frederick IV as the predecessor of Ernest I as Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. This is just not correct. The Saxon duchies were reorganised, which was pointed out to me and I fixed it, but my edit was still undone. In addition, when an infobox simply does not include a successor, as is the case here with Ernest as the Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, it makes for confusion. The successor parameter should be added, with text reading "Monarchy abolished" or, more historically accurate, "Monarchy reorganised". This has been done with all other deposed monarchs' articles, like Constantine II of Greece, Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha and Wilhelm II, to name a few. Please let me know what you think. Thanks. - Therealscorp1an (talk) 03:43, 10 February 2024 (UTC)
- He's not a deposed monarch. Celia Homeford (talk) 08:48, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Celia Homeford: I think you have misunderstood. I never said he was deposed... - Therealscorp1an (talk) 11:59, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
- "This has been done with all other deposed monarchs' articles". Celia Homeford (talk) 12:10, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Celia Homeford: Okay, "abolished" would have been a better word. But please don't tip-toe around the wording to avoid the actual matter here. - Therealscorp1an (talk) 12:17, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
- There is no predecessor or successor. The parameters can be left blank. I don't object to the removal of Frederick IV. Infoboxes should be short and simple. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Infoboxes: "The less information it contains, the more effectively it serves that purpose ... wherever possible, present information in short form, and exclude any unnecessary content." Celia Homeford (talk) 14:12, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
- Sure, I would agree with you. I just think that leaving those parameters blank confuses the reader. - Therealscorp1an (talk) 21:36, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
