Chinese American community
[edit]Wasn't this act also intended to ameliorate the situation of the Chinese community in the United States? 173.88.241.33 (talk) 01:27, 19 July 2019 (UTC)
Accuracy
[edit]Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the 1870 Act have nothing to do with militias, habeas corpus or juries, respectively. Those descriptions seem to relate instead to those numbered sections of the Third Enforcement Act of 1871. I've rewritten this entire section based on the original source as found at the link in the infobox, plus the one amendment I know of, from the Second Enforcement Act – I don't know if any others exist. It is also called "the First KKK act" and "Civil Rights Act of 1870"
[edit]See the Civil Rights Act of 1870 on the website listed for the Federal Judicial Center. "During Reconstruction, Congress enacted the Civil Rights Act of 1870, also known as the Enforcement Act or the First Ku Klux Klan Act, in order to enforce the terms of the Fifteenth Amendment, which prohibited the states from denying anyone the right to vote based on race." & Constitutional Amendments and Major Civil Rights Acts of Congress Referenced in the Text at govinfo.gov.
