slavery was not the main cause of the Civil war.

Abraham Lincoln said it himsel, slavery was not the cause of the war! Taxation was the cause of the war! The civil war started because the wealthy in the Northern states wanted to put a tax on imported goods going to the southern states but no tax on imported goods going to the northern sates.

Lead needs to clarify exactly when slavery came to end in the US

[edit]

The lead does not really summarise the topic e.g., when exactly did slavery ended in the US. It does not really help people just looking for a quick answer e.g., exact date. 2A00:23EE:1300:82A3:2D54:CDAD:9CBC:E436 (talk) 12:34, 4 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Gradual Emancipation in PA

[edit]

The map on this page mentions gradual emancipation in New York and New Jersey. PA is listed as "Abolition of slavery during or shortly after the American Revolution." PA had a gradual emancipation statute in effect in 1780, but slavery persisted until the 1840s. For the sake of accuracy, I think that we should update the map to reflect gradual emancipation there too rather than just in New York and New Jersey. I don't know how to edit the map.
