Side Effects I have been taking Enalapril (as Vasotec in the USA) for over 20 years. Does anyone know of the potential side effects?86.132.90.56 21:45, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- Loss of smell appears to be one.--Ear1grey 12:03, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
- the nasty cough -- may switch to Norvasc --99.145.131.169 (talk) 14:59, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
I've been taking Enalapril my whole life, (due to a congential heart defect) my sense of smell if fine. No cough either —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.229.160.121 (talk) 15:29, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
Unexplained term: Enalaprit
[edit]I found the following discussion hard to follow, since the term "Enalaprit" had not been defined or linked:
- "Enalapril is a prodrug that is converted by deesterification to converting enzyme inhibitor, enalaprilat, with effects similar to those of captopril. Enalaprit itself is available only for intravenous use, primarily for hypertensive emergencies."
After a little web research, I found two separate documents that each describe the compounds "enalaprit" and "enalaprilat" as the active metabolite of Enalapril. I conclude that "enalaprit" and "enalaprilat" may be the same; however, I am unsure. If anybody knows for sure, please emend the quoted passage to remove the confusion. yoyo (talk) 14:37, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
What does it cost and since when were generics available ?
[edit]Cost history could go in History section - Rod57 (talk) 18:56, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
- A comparison of the economic impact on the NHS of ramipril and enalapril in the treatment of essential hypertension. 1996 says that in 1996 it cost UK NHS £206 for first year and £261 pa on average. Now in 2016 it seems to be only 2p/tablet. - Rod57 (talk) 19:16, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
Family of medication
[edit]Important to say it is a medication, before what type. The type is in the infobox aswell. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 04:47, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
- Regarding this revert, why can't the article say immediately that "Enalapril is an angiotensin-converting-enzyme (ACE) inhibitor"? Similarly, "Formoterol ... is a long-acting β2 agonist" (permalink). "Prednisone is a glucocorticoid medication" (permalink). "Fluoxetine ... is an antidepressant of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class (permalink). SarahSV (talk) 05:01, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
