Silver Crane award effect on notability
[edit]Silver Crane award is a prestigious, and possibly the single most prestigious award in Lithuanian film industry. Its United States equivalent, Academy Award (Oscar) warrants notability of the awarded person. Wikipedia guidance on award notability states, The award may be presumed notable by meeting general notability guidelines when: 1) It is granted by a nation and the award is at the level of the highest and most prestigious awards that can be granted by that nation.[1] Further, Wikipedia:Awards and accolades explains, Awards with their own article (e.g. Academy Award for Best Actor) are presumptively appropriate for inclusion, both for winners and often for nominees. The subject of this article Emilis Velyvis has won the Silver Crane award.
On November 28, 2022 (UTC) editor Onel5969 stated, Unfortunately, winning the Silver Crane, while admirable, is not enough on its own to guarantee notability. [2].
I, Tom disagree with Onel5969: If Oscar or BAFTA is sufficiently notable, then so is the Silver Crane.
I solicit opinions on the subject of Silver Crane award effect on notability.
In particular, I cordially invite Revirvlkodlaku and Inwind to kindly state their opinions.
I have also asked Maxim, a member of WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers to share his insight.
I ask Onel5969 to participate.

- This is now the third venue you've sought on guidance. I and another editor have explained to you how to show notability, yet you are refusing to see it. Onel5969 TT me 16:52, 1 December 2022 (UTC)
- Unlike the talk on your page, this is not exactly a request for guidance. This solicitation of opinions is explained in detail herein: the significance of the Silver Crane award. We already know your stanza, you have stated, winning the Silver Crane, while admirable, is not enough on its own to guarantee notability. But please kindly add to the subject of Silver Crane (not Emilis Velyvis alone) if you wish to expand.
- Thank you,

- Not all awards are of equal notability. Just like belonging to the top tier of sports is not as prestigious in different countries. For example, check out WP:NBASKET, not all top tier basketball leagues are equal.Onel5969 TT me 18:33, 1 December 2022 (UTC)
- A cursory review shows that the Silver Crane is indeed a prestigious award in Lithuania, and this suggests that a winner of this award is notable enough to have their own WP article. That's just my opinion though, I haven't looked into the WP rules on notability. Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 04:42, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Onel5969, thank you for suggesting basketball comparison. I am afraid your example is solely limited to National Basketball Association which is limited to North America (United States and Canada) only. Can you suggest a comparison, even if basketball-based, that covers broader range of countries, such as United Kingdom, Germany,Estonia, New Zealand?
- I would like to suggest BAFTA and/or German Film Award "Lola" and/or Czech Lion Awards for broader comparison beyond the US-American Oscar Academy Awards. If winning a BAFTA or Czech Lion award warrants notability then so a Silver Crane award should warrant notability.
- The suggested rule of thumb is, the national-level filmmaking industry award satisfies Wikipedia notability criteria.
- Ramunas Greicius[3], a cinematographer who has also earned a Ph. D. is a winner of both Czech Lion and Silver Crane. Wikipedia sorely lacks an article about Greicius.
- Further and in particular, such award shall make Emilis Velyvis notable.

- Заслуживает. Winning a Silver Crane award deserves an article in Wikipedia. --DENAMAX (talk) 14:18, 3 December 2022 (UTC) — Note: An editor has expressed a concern that DENAMAX (talk • contribs) has been canvassed to this discussion. ([1125144043 diff])

- Wikipedia editors don’t decide whether someone deserves an article. Notability is established through significant coverage in sources. Also DENAMAX hasn’t answered anything on their talk page. Ttk371 wrote all the contributions in that section. Their behavior is starting to be troubling.Tvx1 15:19, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
