Ideas for further improvements

[edit]

The new article could cover the importance of emergency sanitation from a disease containment, environmental, logistical and technical challenges specific to the first 6 months of an emergency response. And now also the protracted nature of emegencies in drounght/refugee situations. Also liniking to the market side of things and how interventions can support other sectors. A paragraph on each technology following the basic emergency sanitation texts, so the chapter from engineering in emergencies or the WEDC emergency sanitaiton book. The flow from trenches to household latrines in emergencies.EMsmile (talk) 11:17, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Possible new sub-section.

[edit]

A new section can be added to describe specific steps that people can follow in order to maintain proper personal hygiene during an emergency.Leandragp3 (talk) 20:38, 3 May 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leandragp3 (talkcontribs) 20:36, 3 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this is an interesting one. Take a look at the definition of sanitation (I want to do some more work on that article). Hygiene is part of sanitation but sometimes people think saitation is only excreta management. So I welcome your addition but make sure you don't repeat too much content that is already under hygiene or should be there. Make sure it goes hand in hand and doesn't duplicate. Improving the "challenges" section

[edit]

The "Challenges" section can be expanded by adding information on impoverished and/or low-income areas. There is a lot of information that either needs to be cited or rewritten with information available in proper sources.Katzenjamming (talk) 04:02, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you. EMsmile (talk) 06:06, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion for Expansion

[edit]

A section about how developed countries play a role in emergency sanitation processes could be added. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zbraverman (talkcontribs) 05:18, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

what do you mean? Do you mean in terms of funding and humanitarian aid? Yes, please add - together with references. EMsmile (talk) 06:04, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to student editors!

[edit]

Wecome to student editors Katzenjamming, Zbraverman, Leandragp3! I look forward to seeing your edits. This article can benefit greatly from more content, references, wikilinks and images. Be bold and add content! I can help if needed (FYI @User:WashCapacity). EMsmile (talk) 06:03, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Putting information from Sphere handbook back in

[edit]

Hi User:Diannaa I have now put some information from the Sphere handbook back in, based on the discussion we have had on the talk page of User:Chaiwe here: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:Chaiwe#Wikipedia_and_copyright . I did this after looking at the previously deleted work of User:WashCapacity and User:Chaiwe due to copyright issues. Please check if you agree with the way I have cited and quoted from that handbook now. Do you agree with the way I have done it? I used their previous edits as inspiration while thinking about which key aspects from the Sphere handbook ought to be included. I am undecided if any of the key actions (page 133) should be included as direct quotes or not but I think maybe better not, as we have to keep in mind that Wikipedia is not meant to be a "how to" do something as per WP:NOTHOWTO. Let me know if you agree with the kinds of editing work I have done here today so far, or if you have any concerns. EMsmile (talk) 12:01, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The addition looks okay from a copyright point of view.— Diannaa (talk) 12:05, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
