Cerebral oedema

[edit]

Is it known whether or not King died of high-altitude cerebral edema as a result of flying? Do any of the sources discuss possible causes of his cerebral oedema? We can't go beyond the sources, of course, but it would seem strange to me if no one who wrote about King speculated about causes, or at least wrote that the cause was unknown. Either of these statements (whichever is true) would be a useful addition to the article. At present, the article simply states that "he died unexpectedly of cerebral oedema on 28 November, aged forty-seven," and then doesn't discuss the matter any further. Good question, Neelix, but I don't think the sources go into any more detail -- if they had I think I would've mentioned something. Is this condition one you'd expect to occur while airborne, or could it strike some time after a flight? If the former, I'm sure it would have been reported if he'd had an attack in the air and crashed. If the latter, well the job he had at the end would have been largely deskbound -- some flying perhaps but more to maintain his flying 'currency' I would say than anything serious and sustained. Understood; I'm sure you've done your due diligence. It would be nice to be able to add a statement like "the cause of which was unknown", but we can't even add that information if it doesn't appear in the sources. Congratulations on another great FA!
