Ellet/Osgood/Poe scandal
[edit]I have added a fairly substantial section on the Ellet/Osgood/Poe scandal to Virginia Eliza Clemm Poe, in case anyone is interested. The most interesting part, I think, is when Virginia claims on her deathbed that Ellet was her murderer. Harsh words! --Midnightdreary (talk) 14:23, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- A bit late, but I went ahead and added a lot of this info to this article, as well as info on her situation with Rufus Griswold. I also went ahead and started a basic lead, but it could really use some improvement if anyone wants to undertake the challenge. A few more footnotes and some expansion on her later life might get this article suitable for a good article review... --Midnightdreary (talk) 02:47, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the push, I deleted a large quote I had in there (I don't remember why I put that in there?). It wasn't relevant to her bio at all. Added more about her major work, still more to do there. I will try to add a bit more to her later years. Maybe more pics? - Epousesquecido (talk) 18:38, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- Certainly! We should also try to establish a page for her on Wikisource. --Midnightdreary (talk) 19:06, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- Wikisource page is done. - Epousesquecido (talk) 02:32, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

GA nom
[edit]When is this article going up for GA? It seems about ready to me... (no way is it "start" any more!... it's at least B if not A) ++Lar: t/c 20:25, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- I think we're close but I'm not confident it's ready yet. Her later life (27 years) crams into only three paragraphs; I'm sure there's more to talk about. I think more footnotes would help, too (i.e. under "Career"). My guess is that the GA reviewer might request a Bibliography or List of works. I think the lead could expand a bit too. --Midnightdreary (talk) 02:41, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- I should also note that the referencing style isn't 100% consistent - it looks like I was using a different style. Sorry! ;) --Midnightdreary (talk) 16:14, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- I think that's sorted now. This surely is GA. Heck, it's almost FA, if you ask me. Maybe some more expansion of the works related stuff but... ++Lar: t/c 20:36, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

I think this is ready for GA nomination now. Epousesquecido, I'll let you handle the honors. --Midnightdreary (talk) 12:28, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- Nominated...- Epousesquecido (talk) 13:10, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- Good luck. I'll try to lend a hand as I can. ++Lar: t/c 14:52, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
GA review
[edit]I certainly agree this article meets the GA criteria, and I don't think a simple checklist review will be helpful here. Instead, I'll point out some things that will help this article pass FA.
- Contemporary criticism. The archives of the New York Times are all online, and searchable back to 1850 or so. This is old enough to get some reviews of her work. You must choose the appropriate time-range from a drop-down box. This is a useful first step, it may be that some of you have access to specialist libraries which would allow you to go further.
- Her works: More commentary on her works would be helpful - at the moment, only one or two are discussed in detail.
- Legacy: What, if any, effect did Ellet's work have on modern scholars? It's said she's still read today, so there must be something of note to say about her, perhaps even modern criticism, all of which is missing.
Fix these, and I think you're in good straits to move into FA. Good luck! Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 18:12, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- By the by, this would be a good addition. Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 11:35, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- I think it's been there a while, as it is current ref #6. I found it interesting that her family had so much land... (the ref is underused, there are other tidbits that could be used in the article...) ++Lar: t/c 10:36, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
