Details about his family
[edit]I am not sure why who his parents are is being removed especially since both of his parents have their own wiki pages.Patapsco913 (talk) 20:38, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
The parents names are actually still on the page.Forthlin2014 (talk) 16:29, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
Removal of sourced content
[edit]- Jewish can be either a religion or an ethnicity. Nothing states that he is religious, rather it only states that Attie identifies as Jewish given his contributions (writing a book with 50 other Jewish authors on the Torah - why else would he contribute?) and statements (Attie humbly accepted, saying he was "nowhere near deserving" because he did not create the shows he works for and his involvement in the Sephardic community has been "sporadic." But, he said, "no matter how far you drift, your family and identity never seem to be that far behind you.") which were all properly sourced. You also removed the infobox as well as othe properly sourced information. This is a biography so we assemble information on the subject to tell the subject's story. The proper protocol is to answer on the talk page rather than continue to revert especially when one has asked politely on your talk page?Patapsco913 (talk) 16:25, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
sorry, I didn't know how to answer on the talk page until now. yes, you're right that the subject did get this award and contribute to the book you mention. but the subject has done tons of other things that aren't mentioned, and on balance has no real connection to Judaism, yet in the context of a fairly short wikipedia page someone has been putting in every possible reference to this, in the most prominent places on the page, which makes it seem as if the subject is more deeply involved in these things than he is.Forthlin2014 (talk) 16:33, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
- But the solution is not to remove content but rather add content (which I also did and you removed). I only added more on his Jewish background because other people kept removing it without explanation. I also added other information which you removed whcih was sourced and you took away the infobox? A person's ethnic background, parentage, and / or religion are all key components of one's biography. If we remove everything then we do not have a story about the person and given his statements and authorship, Atie clearly does not disavow his Jewish heritage.Patapsco913 (talk) 16:49, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
first of all, I really respect the work you do on wikipedia, and I hope you take everything I say in that spirit. its a critical resource and you play a role in keeping it that way. for me, it is a question of emphasis. I could see an added line saying the subject is of Jewish heritage, or even a couple of the specifics that had been added, but it led with Judaism in so many places, it just overemphasized it for someone who's claimed he had no real Jewish education or religious belief or involvement. which gets to the question of the info box and details like college major. some of these were wrong, but the bigger issue is: this isn't a hugely prominent person, he's simply known to certain people for a couple things. in my view, too much information obscures what a wiki page for this sort of person ought to be -- the key and relevant details about why they're notable, not every detail that can be found. for Frank Sinatra, sure. but in my view -- and I say this with the greatest respect for your efforts and your viewpoint -- it actually makes it less useful as a resource, and not more so; makes it harder to see what is truly notable and important about a person.Forthlin2014 (talk) 17:36, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
- Alrighty...so what has he done that is not being captured? Let us add it. It is in your corner. I look at the info that has been added and it is Bio 101. Removing the infobox and sourced info does not help. Give us some more backgroundPatapsco913 (talk) 03:20, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
let me take a careful look and see what might be missing that is significant... and thank you again!Forthlin2014 (talk) 16:49, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
