Y'all are nuts if you think the main problem here is citations rather than the level this is written at

There is literally no point in wikipedia if it is filled with articles written at such a high level that the only way to understand them is to already be getting your PhD in the subject. Without giving out too many identifying details about myself, I have a very significant education in the physical sciences. That education includes a substantial math background. And yet still this article is essentially incomprehensible and useless to me. We can absolutely do better. Even if you want to have a section on the hardcore mathematical basis for electric dipole transitions, it absolutely should not be the whole article.
