Volunteers

[edit]
First hand reports from Volunteers on the ground in Gulfport, MS on Saturday, September, 3, 2005:
"just as you would expect, he said it was like a nuclear bomb had gone off down there. He said FEMA is very much present in that area though so you can get food and water so that was good news. he said they had worked hard on clean up all day and that [name deleted] had been able to do some structural evaulations as far as the safety of some of the structures they were trying to inhabit so that had been good. he said they would have to quit when it got dark of course because they would have no lights."
"Said the cell phone was hit and miss. That he had tried to call me probably 20 times today. We only talked a few minutes before we lost the connection and I have been unable to get through again. He has spent a good bit of his day today pumping gas into cans, generators and chainsaws today. He said everyone there is very very appreciative of them being there. He got very choked up when he told me about an elderly couple who came to get some gas from him. They lost their house and everything they owned and are living in someone elses's house who left but their house survived. He said they are determined to stay."
