Later in the conversation, after hearing that Thomas Pickering was a candidate to serve as US ambassador in Jordan (he got that position), Kissinger responded, “and he’s not Jewish”. A few weeks later Kissinger talked to Leonard Garment, a Jewish attorney who was Nixon’s partner at a New York law firm and served as the President’s informal advisor on Jewish affairs; Garment asked Kissinger whether he would recommend Edward Korry (former ambassador to Chile) for a certain administration position. Kissinger said that was a good idea and added, “Why give the job to a Gentile?” Garment thought Korry wasn’t Jewish, but Kissinger insisted, “Of course he’s Jewish”. — in: A Jew For All Season: Henry Kissinger's Jewishness, American Foreign Policy and the 1973 War in the Middle East, Page 26 --91.65.17.56 (talk) 18:30, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
