Layfield promotion or appointment

[edit]

I changed Layfield's job from a promotion to an appointment and Black Sailor changed it back, which is where it now is update - see below. Appointment is the language used in the cited ref - Gregson and Roscoe's letters use this term. So promotion might not even be verifiable from that ref. But I actually felt also that appointment was the more correct term - he was appointed into this post, presumably against opposing candidates both internal and external, so the key fact it seems to me is who was appointed, not that he was promoted. Finally, I am really very unsure that "promotion" is the appropriate term here. It seems to me to have a much narrower scope, like he was an Accounts Clerk who got promoted to Senior Accounts Clerk and then Head Accounts Clerk .. I don't think music colleges work like that! Even if he was previously teaching staff there then I don;t think that "promotion" into the HS job can just be seen as a natural flow. If it is felt important that he had already worked there, then perhaps it should be spelt out - again with references - rather than leaving the reader to infer it, which is what currently seems seemed to be suggested. Having said all that I am not up for an edit war over this, and would welcome others' input. Best wishes DBaK (talk) 14:01, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Update: Sorry, I had not realized that Black Sailor had already boldly changed it TO promotion once. Per WP:BRD I am now reverting that and invite Black Sailor (or indeed anyone else!) to discuss it here. Thanks. Sorry I missed this while looking at the history before. Best wishes DBaK (talk) 14:14, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

OK DBaK, I've amended it in a away that I hope you will feel comfortable with, and which avoids the word 'promoted' whilst making it clear that Layfield was already on the college staff, which is a relevant issue, I think. Regards Black Sailor (talk) 15:25, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think that's much much better: many thanks. DBaK (talk) 16:57, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Career

The Career section lacks almost any information about most of his career. 2.102.192.248 (talk) 19:24, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
