Congo

[edit]

He holds citizenship of the Republic of the Congo, not of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and not of Angola. He was just born there. Please do not change it! It is proven by the Ligue 1, which has seen his passport for his license. --HSV1887 (talk) 22:31, 11 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

He can not hold Angolan citizenship because he has no Angolan parents. Birth in Angola alone is not sufficient grounds for a right to Angolan citizenship, Angolan nationality law.--HSV1887 (talk) 22:46, 11 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This is true that in 2019, Ligue1 website was indicating a Republic of the Congo nationality.
But they often make errors for DR Congo players, and erroneously attribute them Congo-Brazzaville nationality. Here are some examples :
Firmin Mubele
Christian Kinkela
John Tshibumbu
All these players were born in Kinshasa, DR Congo, and play for DR Congo national team. Their Republic of the Congo nationality on Ligue1 website is an error, and the same happened for Camavinga. Subsequently, all the media picked up on the error, which spread en masse.
A recent book confirms his parents were from DR Congo and fled the country during the civil war.
