Edinburgh

Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and one of its 32 council areas. Located in the south-east of Scotland, it is bounded to the north by the Firth of Forth estuary and to the south by the Pentland Hills. With a population of 506,520 in mid-2020, Edinburgh is the second-largest city in Scotland by population and the seventh largest in the United Kingdom. The royal burgh of Edinburgh was founded by King David I in the early 12th century on land belonging to the Crown, and has been capital of Scotland since at least the 15th century. This aerial photograph, with Edinburgh Castle in the foreground, was taken around 1920.

Infobox collage

[edit]

@Goodreg3, I do not think that the six-image version of the infobox collage is an improvement, as the individual images are too small to clearly see. In particular, the horizontal width of the Scottish Parliament image means the Scott Monument image is very narrow. Separately, the image of the city's skyline is of poor quality, being blurry in the details and over-saturated. Six images also leads to a rather long infobox, which is not desirable.

The four-image version of the infobox college created by myself mitigates these issues. The skyline image has better colours (although we do lack a good high-res image), and the use of a cropped image of the Scottish Parliament allows the image of the Scott Monument to be larger. Seems fine to me, even on mobile view. Seasider53 (talk) 19:31, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with the current version of six images. It’s common for cities to have this number of images in their infobox (some even have more than 6 which is arguably too much, however…). Goodreg3 (talk) 19:48, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The fact it's become common for cities to have large infobox collages doesn't necessarily mean this is a good practice, or that it should be universally applied. In Edinburgh's case, the four-image version works better as each image is clearer. A.D.Hope (talk) 07:58, 2 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Let's get some agreement and see what other's think first. Goodreg3 (talk) 15:46, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
