Hmm.. Is it NPOV to mention that he is also known as "Fast Eddie"?

Failure of Rendell of Confront the Issue of Illegal Immigration

As the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has been flooded by illegal immigration, Governor Rendell has done nothing but hide behind the notion that immigration policy is a federal matter. While that is true in the larger sense, everybody knows the federal government has not controlled the border or performed internal enforcement. Many states have taken steps to de-certify businesses which knowingly hire illegal immigrants, and encouraged employers to use the free, quick, online database E-Verify to assure that prospective employees are legally able to work in the U.S. Pennsylvania, by way of contrast, has done nothing on this issue. "2006 Re-election bid" Section Needs Trimming

Specifically, the parts about candidates who have already dropped out and those who never entered. It's probably ok to list them, but I don't think we need to go into detail about their reasons for not staying/entering in the race. Also, the stuff about the July poll seems rather pointless at this point. It's odd to discuss why Rendell is performing badly, even in retrospect, when he now has a 12 point lead over a popular former NFL star. - Maximusveritas 05:52, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

There is already a separate article on the election. I am going to change the tag in the section from "see also" to "main article", and move or delete most of the material in the section. I'm also going to fix the July poll (I thought I'd done that on an earlier edit, but apparently not.) Good suggestions. John Broughton 19:16, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

I wasnt sure if their had been a seperate article, had not come across one. But if the information is their, then it is far more relevant to that article then it is to this article, whith short blurbs about the election with link to the election article for more indepth information. Good job trimming it down. As far as the unstable polling, I think it has to do with the methodology employed by Rasmussen, Zogby, and Strategic Vision, all of which are very questionable. I tend to trust the Quinnipiac polls much more than the others. - Maximusveritas 22:40, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Agree with the trim comment, good job, i could have not done better my self. As for polls i have allwaways found polls in general to be questionable, at least in the last several years. Shaping the article

I reverted WayneNight's edits that came about 5 minutes after mine.

• I don't know who Mark Cohen is and why he pops up in the article.
• The headers should stay the way they were in accordance with the standard format on Wikipedia.
• The changes I made to the Plan for a New Pennsylvania paragraph were because the piece looked like they were from the Governor's public relations people. By the way, before we get charges that I am just a GOP hack, the information is based on material from the PA House Democratic Caucus and the Governor's own press release. And I voted for Ed Rendell.
• I would hardly characterize the Philly suburbs as heavily Republican. The Republican registration advantage is relatively small in all four counties. I would also quarrel with the assessment as to why Rendell swept the four suburban counties. Rendell was popular from his time as mayor and the 'collar counties' also tend to vote regionally. Milton Shapp won in the southeast in 1971 back when the GOP advantage was far larger. Arlen Specter also blows people away in the southeast.

Republicans control pretty much all the Senate seats in the Philadelphia suburbs at the moment. There are, on the other hand, the most moderate of the GOP. Still, it's been considered a GOP stronghold until this year when everything is getting shaky. Sot it's fair.

I like the way the article reads now. I took the liberty of making some minor copyedits. Hopefully the most controversial of these is removing a bit of speculation about realignment of voting in Pennsylvania (one election does not a realignment make, and in any case wouldn't these be better discussed in, say, the article on Pennsylvania?), and removing the "first governor from Philidelphia since 1979", which - to my non-Pennsylvanian ears - isn't particularly memorable. In all honesty you can put back the 'first Philadelphian in a century' if you want. I guess its technically true since Governor Shapp actually lived in Montgomery County although his business was based in Philly.

I think the part where he's a "key supporter of Bob Casey" is weird considering half the political talk in the state right now is about how his support has been lukewarm.

Running for President?

The year is 2006, the presidental election is in 2008, and there is already a massive article about Rendell running for president. The article says that he doesn't have any interest to run, in the first paragraph, so do you really need the rest of it? Can we please cut down that section, at least until he himself says he wants to run? Bcody 01:29, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

jesus christ, if those democrats continue to overlook Rendell and instead swarm around the "candidates" of hill clinton and obama hyped up by the mainstream media echo chamber which props up their candidacies, these who don't even have anywhere near his BREADTH of elected governmental (and party exp --dnc head) experience--then they deserve to forever get locked out of the white house.

Getting into the Reserve in 1968

It was extremely difficult to get into any reserve component in 1968 and thus avoid being drafted and sent to Vietnam. I know because I tried myself, but failed, was drafted, and was sent to war. Reserve Component

It would be interesting to know how Rendell was able to enter the Reserves in 1968, when every other kid his age was scrambling to enter the Reserves in order to sidestep the draft and Vietnam. Speeding and Primary date

Several IP editors are reverting removal of a paragraph that is clearly POV and unsourced alleging Rendell's history as a speeder as well as the removal of a sentence specifying the date of PA's primary. Neither of these editions are encyclopedic and as far as I'm concerned they don't belong in the article. Ha, this is the weirdest thing. I just returned to rewrite the lead, but the article appears substantially different than before, and the entire history does also. I remember the day posted on here Wikipedia was acting screwy and in fact this was the only article on the US governors I could see, as something in one of the templates used was creating blank articles for the rest. This article appears fine. The one I saw before was just a biased list of scandals and didn't even mention his office in the lead. Must have been a fluke. Dear Ed;Please excuse my typing errors,I'm 52 years old headed for 53 this august 25th.I have always done my best to be a law abiding citizen,I pay my taxes,and I vote,I'm sorry to tell you I am not a democrat,setting all politics aside I feel I must bring your attention to my concern for the laws on marijuana.I have been a pot smoker since I was 10yrs old I have never broken any other laws,heck I've never even gotten a parking ticket.I have been self employed most of my life .I started a small buis,in 95 here in chambersburg with 95 dollars the first yr in buis I brought over 500,000 into pa from other states through the sales of waterwell and oilfield suplies over the phone from my home.I hired 7 people over the next five years and produced over 500,000 every yr until 09'.I'm not sure what happend but the market calapsed in the end of 08 and got worse in 09'.So I shut my buis down released all employees and went to work for a competitor out of Utah.My income was reduced by 70/80%,So to keep my only activitie I did from home I decided to grow 3 marijuana plants outside my kitchen window for my own use,in an effort not to have to buy it.The short end of this letter is that The police spotted my plants sent in a helocopter and at least a dozen troppers along with the drug task force led by Darryl Or Darren North,While I was with a state tropper telling him the plants were mine and that they were not for sale,He informed me that it was a felony,I was shocked,He then told me that he had probible cause to search my home,I told him I did not want him in my home,He then told me he would get a search warrant and tear my house apart,I responded by telling him that would not be needed that I would give him what he was looking for,We procceded up to my home where upon entering I found det.North already in my home and already in possesion of a oz.and my pipe and rolling papers.Here's where it get even worse I hired a lawyer out of gettysburg by the name of rice he told me it was a 1,000 for each time he showed in court on my behalf,On the the first court date he told me he had worked out a deal and that I would not need him anymore and took my 2,000 as payment for 1 court date,When I showed up for my second court date I had to have a public defender,My public defender told me I had been taken atvantage of and should write some board in harrisburg,At any rate my Public defender pushed me through the system,I asked for only one thing that the felony be downgraded to a misdimeanor.However the prosicutor would not budge he instead told me that if I fought them he would seek maximum penalty for me of 5yrs in jail.I felt like I was being blackmailed.I had no choice I could not fight the system,So I pleaded guilty.My penalty was 3yrs of probation,3,000 in court cost and fines,120 hrs of community service,lose of my drivers lic.for 1 yr,lose of my right to own a firearm even for home protection,6mths in a day reporting center and a felony on my record as a first offense.I feel I was overly punished and am not sure why.So as a result when I'm released from my probation I will either leave the state and move to where I will not be treated like a criminal because I choose to smoke pot instead of tobacco ,or drink booze.Or I will start a non profit company called (C.A.L.M.)Citizens Alliance for legalization of Marijuana,and I will use this company to make pa.spend as much money as possible fighting me.NOT BLACKMAILING ME ANYMORE.please show me that you care about our laws on pot,how can it be decriminalized in eastern pa ,nj,mi,me,ca,co and other places but I'm a felon here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.55.120.72 (talk) 22:04, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Needs work

This article doesn't seem to be B-class, and it definitely needs work. There are many unsourced statements in here that need to be sourced, and I even managed to find a spelling error and an entire section that was using the wrong tense. The reference list also needs to be fixed to include more information about the sources. I'll look over thoroughly some time this week, possibly tomorrow, and start making improvements. --Slon02 (talk) 00:30, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

I just got through watching a 2009 Animal Cops Philadelphia show that at the end talked about Gov. Rendell changing the dog laws that would improve the puppy mill problems. I don't see anything in here about that. Anyone have more information? Thanks. Mylittlezach (talk) 19:10, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
