Contribution of mining and manufacturing to Nam GDP
[edit]There is now a number of conflicting percentages floating around:
- mining 8% in the main article
- mining 20%, lead section of Economy of Namibia
- mining 13.7%, further down in Economy of Namibia
- manufacturing 8% in the main article
- manufacturing 20%, further down in Economy of Namibia
US Department of State puts those numbers for 2007 at
- mining 12.4%,
- agriculture 9.5%,
and doesn't mention manufacturing.
Travel Document Systems puts those numbers for 2007 at
- mining 12.4%,
- manufacturing 15.4%
- agriculture 6% over a period of 5 years.
The Namibian implicitly explains the difference in agriculture by stating two different sub-areas (total numbers, 2008/09 financial year, percentages are mine):
- agriculture and forestry N$1,7 billion (=4.47% of 38 billion GDP)
- commercial farming N$1,2 billion (=3.15% of 38 billion GDP)
So I shall take the two percentages for 2007 for mining (12.4%) and manufacturing (15.4%), and leave agriculture at 9.5% for lack of more accurate data. I'll update the main article Namibia as well. --Pgallert (talk) 09:53, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
ITC external link on trade data
[edit]Hello everyone, I am working for the International Trade Centre (ITC). I would like to propose the addition of an external link that could lead directly to the specific country’s trade data held by ITC. I would like you to consider this link under the WP:ELYES #3 prescriptions. Moreover, the reliability and the pertinence of this link can be supported by the following facts 1) ITC is part of the United Nations 2) No registration is required 3) Trade data (imports/exports) are regularly updated 4) The link gives direct access to the trade database of the specific country 5) The addition of reliable trade data to the Economy section of the country could provide an appropriate contribution to the information therein contained. Thank you for your attention.Divoc (talk) 13:34, 20 June 2011 (UTC)
unclear graphical description?
[edit]It has: 16% Radioactive chemical elements and 13% Uranium & thorium.
Well, aren't uranium and thorium radioactive elements? At least Thorium has this: Thorium is a naturally occurring radioactive chemical element. 85.217.38.222 (talk) 21:43, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
- I wondered about that one, too. I take the graphic out, as it contradicts available data, also for diamonds. If someone can come up with an explanation of what it actually depicts, we can re-insert it. --Pgallert (talk) 08:41, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

Updated Data
[edit]Hello everyone,
After a cursory glance of this article, it was evident that many of the statistics are outdated. Most of the data is from 2009, and I am sure several of these figures have changed in some degree. In addition, the Namibian economy is much more dynamic than the article describes. This article would greatly benefit from more in-depth subsections.

Thank you for pointing that out, i tried to make the article and statistics current as well as update the figures to more recent years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1993JT (talk • contribs) 04:29, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
