This term appears to be fairly loose in the academic literature. The term "carbon tariff" is occasionally used synonymously. Is there perhaps an alternative all-encompassing concept for trade barriers that are intended to improve the environment? Should we re-name this article "Trade and the environment" and mention "eco-tariffs", "environmental tariffs", "carbon tariffs" etc in sections in the article? Wouldn't that be better?
