Your map of East Patchogue is incorrect. N. Dunton Avenue is not the dividing line between N. Bellport and E. Patchogue. East Patchogue extends further east to about Shurger Avenue. There are racist attempts to change streets in East Patchogue and label them North Bellport. The streets east of N. Dunton and Dunton Avenue extend almost a mile east. I believe they attempted to do this because of the racial make-up of this portion of East Patchogue. I have grown up in East Patchogue and lived on Americus Avenue. The address is still East Patchogue. My mother still lives there and is outraged that she finds her block are on some maps that show her block lies within N. Bellport. She has been there since 1960 and it is, and always has been East Patchogue. St. Joseph the Worker R.C. Churh is on the next block east and is on Narragansett Avenue that is also further east. If you look up that address, you will see it is in East Patchogue as well. I believe an investigation is necessary to correct this error. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.246.231.39 (talk) 04:44, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The map is provided by the US Census Bureau. It is a map of the census-designated place, which is merely a statistical area with definitive boundaries used only for census purposes. East Patchogue is also a hamlet, which is an unincorporated community (no government, not legally recognized). Because hamlets have no legal boundaries, local interpretations as to what is in or not in the hamlet can vary. East Patchogue is also the name given by the United States Postal Service to a delivery area. These zones (in this case 11772) are often named after a community they serve, but typically do not have the same boundaries, as ZIP code areas are designed for maximizing post office efficiency. In short, the map is an accurate representation of the CDP, but not necessarily of the hamlet or the ZIP code area. --JBC3 (talk) 04:57, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
