[edit]

Should this party be refered as a Green conservative party? It was created by a Monarchist (and former leader of the main Portuguese Monarchist Party), it has been in coaltion governments with the rights, it distinguishes itself from the clearly left-wing eco-socialist/eco-communist Ecologist Party "The Greens", and besides deffending clearly green position it supports:

  • Defence of culture, of language, of history and in the (sic) developement of education;
  • Afirmation of Lusofony;

People's Monarchist Party and Social Democratic MPs change to the Earth Party in Parliament with relative ease, and monarchist and liberal-conservative view are frequent in them. This shouldn't go unmentioned neither in here neither in the Green Conservative article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.136.21.65 (talk) 09:48, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The MPT isn't really conservative anymore

[edit]

They have indeed been created by right-wing monarchists and ally with PSD and PP occasionally, but they're not really conservatives anymore. If you take a look at their electoral manifesto [1] you'll find they advocate for progressive measures such as "allowing adoption to expand to singles and same-sex couples" (p.11), maximizing gross domestic happiness and abolishing public funding of political parties, not to mention a bigger state presence in health issues. The MPT is not conservative (anymore)

Upoorde (talk) 22:11, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Upoorde: Do you have reliable sources documenting the MPT's shift away from conservatism? Right now, it seems like it's only your personal analysis of a primary source, when secondary sources are usually preferred. Ezhao02 (talk) 14:10, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Ezhao02: I have none that confirms a shift away, nor one that states otherwise. If you do, however, take a look at their program whose link I've placed (regardeless of being a primary source) they openly state they're not conseravtives. In their proposals pages, you'll see in the upper right corner a "political compass" of where their ideas on each particular topic stand:[2]. They never place their ideas in the conservative sides of the spectrum, they're always either in the liberal sides or in the center. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Upoorde (talk) 23:19, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Upoorde: Thanks for the response. There are two issues with using that as a source. First, the MPT's party program is a primary source. If they're saying that they're not conservatives, they could be lying or trying to mislead people, since they're writing about themselves. Second, we do need a source talking about the shift, since there was/is a reliable secondary source calling the MPT green-conservative. Ezhao02 (talk) 00:58, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
full agreement with Ezhao02. A party stating or self-describing their own ideology is not a reliable source.--Autospark (talk) 12:00, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
